Even as he watches the sky, so intent on tracing his eyes around the jagged edges of the clouds, he senses Satowra's discomfort next to him. It's almost like heat which radiates away from her, and suddenly the hairs on the back of his neck are slowly but surely pricking upwards. He is more keen to the smell of her blood as it rushes beneath her skin. Absentmindedly, the golden male smiles softly to himself once more; a smile free of any feeling. Just a smile. And then he looks at her and says, "Are you sure, dear Satowra? I'm sure if you look around you can find one of these seemingly elusive 'maidens'." His gaze is torn from her and he retreats once more into the soft listlessness which seems to accompany him these days. When her gaze meets his, there is an almost imperceptible widening to her own eyes, and a gasp which spills from her lips. His eyes crumple at the corners a bit before he forces himself to look away from her comically startled face. "I do not know the answer to that, alpha. Perhaps we should ask her if she enjoys creating beautiful things," his response is not sarcastic, but rather dull in the argument which should surely be there.
He stays silent, occasionally looking at Rio and Satowra after his introduction to the burgundy male. He has no job within Bright Moon save to be loyal to the pack - and Ray is not entirely sure if he needs a larger job. It is quite obvious that Satowra trusts Rio, and something about the other male, despite his characteristic quietness which Ray has noticed in the time of being in his company, makes Raylen trust him too. And what's more, he can almost feel the way Satowra seems to become strangely... shy? Drawn? He cannot explain it, but there is something between the two. He's seen it since the first day.
He stares at her paw, and the earth around it. He attempts to drive away Soul's face from his mind. The memories of Idalia and Ilya and Raziel as they grew under his watchful gaze before he and Soul left Moladion. And then when Soul left him... or he left her. There is a pang of longing in his heart, to feel once more. But it occurs to the golden boy that maybe this 'feeling', this caring for his alpha, for their lands, is only a mask. A false hope, another one, that maybe by feeling once more, he could bring her back. He looks up sharply, as though almost startled, when the alpha begins to speak, even though her voice is soft and soothing. It does nothing to balm the ache in his heart, and his face grows no warmer. He realizes that she is above him, but Ray does not bother to pretend that her words mean something to him. Because in all honesty, they don't. "Then Satowra, I envy your mate for having you as his lover. You are one of the few who I've seen to love so flawlessly. If only Soul had too." Her name hangs in the air around him, and he realizes with a start that there are many ways to interpret his words; it would be up to Rio and Satowra to figure what he truly meant, because he would not bother to explain.
"I did feel sorrow. But now it's only dwindled into resignation. Because I realize that she will no longer be mine, and if she ever falls within reach again, I will not be able to grasp her. Neither of us will give our whole selves as we once did, and what is the point of love if we don't? Because I feel nothing any longer, does this mean that I never truly cared for her?" His voice is bitter, telling exactly the opposite of what he'd stated. Just as Satowra looks at Rio, Ray does also, setting his teal gaze onto the other's face. "I apologize. This must be uncomfortable for you." Raylen's shadowed lips pull down into a frown, and then he turns to Satowra. "Hiding your face does not ease the fact that, despite being our leader, you need to heal most of all, alpha."
