Bright Moon - a land sullied by mystery and the ravaging scars of a terrible fire. Abandoned as a pack land for years, the terra has been used as a gathering place for the brazen and bloodthirsty drawn there by the lingering pall of death. Yet from the ashes there comes an unordained phoenix, the rainbow hues of hope glinting in her mismatched globes. Through the obsidian drapes obscuring the scenery, she alone was able to catch the perfumed aroma of new life on the breeze and hear the sluggish streams flowing ever swifter into the morning.

Thus, with a purpose, she set out to map the incognita, discovering daily the extent of the reawakening and unearthing within herself a desire to return the landscape to its former glory. Now she stands tall as privileged Alpha of the lands, lording over the rock-strewn prairie and bountiful forests with a firm but gentle paw.

Having finally realized her deepest longing to be a queen, Satowra is focused solely on the revival and maintenance of the Bright Moon Pack. Her question to each prospective warrior that comes to the border is simple:

"Do you have what it takes?"

Shudders racked sporadically through her body, drawing alarm to replace the tenderness with which he had met her maw and instilling a sense of protectiveness as Omni locked his shoulders and held them stiffly in place next to her pitch form, willing the convulsions to stop, willing her to know that he would have always been there if he could have been. The action was lost in the repetitive waves of raw feeling that erupted from within her soul, growing larger and more violent each tear through the curtain of her emotions that had been so delicately crafted in his absence. He could not be in control of her, could not provide her limbs with the strength to stand, and look forward towards the future with him as he so desperately wished to. He knew not what she saw before her multihued orbs, what scenes flashed between them borne forth by the soothing expression emanating from his frothy turquoise orbs, that caused her to finally lose control, to sink to her knees in the classic symbol of deliverance and sob until spittle flew from her lips unseen behind the tears pouring from all sides. Or perhaps that was not saliva that he saw behind his own tears, but the very essence of her soul cleansing itself of all the hate and lies that he had unintentionally put there. Or perhaps he saw nothing at all, and this entire meeting was nothing more than an illusion from which he would walk away from and be swept away by the long arms of sleep to live out the rest of his life in eternal twilight for the day had neither passed nor regressed in their exclamations of the past, but lingered in the sultry air in an effort to remain inconspicuous, reluctant to bring the two lovers from having to depart once more under the cloak of dapper moonlight.

Grief was such a profound feeling, so strong that it sliced Omni to the bone, like every day since he had left her for the very first time. Grief, pain, regret, sorrow. All were so similar and yet so different, for here was Satowra, an alphess reduced to a heap of crystal pain and happiness from the strains of sorrow, and there was he, broken by grief and regret, never to walk the same on the earth as he had always done. The wrongs that he had done her lie stamped across her expressions, were made evident in the way she carried herself in the quiet hour of dawn, leaving her changed in irreparable ways that were impossible to denounce, but rode heavy on his conscience each day. She had received nothing but suffering from his paws, such that was not at all equivalent to the rare nights they’d spent together. But it was not to be thought that Omni himself had escaped harm.

Grief.

It could break a wolf. It could steal his will power and want of living, leaving nothing unscathed as it scoured every memory, every living bout of happiness that had once burned with life and left it acidic and left to rot on the brain. The word embodied the world that the white stag had grown up in, enveloped emotions that resulted from the loss of parents, to the loss of family, to the loss of friends and those to whom he’d pledged to always be there for, to the devastating final loss, that of a true love. And that was truly what had stolen everything from him, for he’d lost more than just Satowra, without whom he might’ve fared alright, albeit in the weakest sense of the word. It was the absence of the very essence of love, the realization that he no longer knew what it meant, what it could do. Any actions that love had generated, such as self-appreciation, were abandoned for he knew not the purpose of love itself, why it existed, nor where. Grief brought him to it in the end, the confusion, the reality that there was no hope to ever live again without the fuel of love to keep it awake, burning, in his gullet.

So weak. He’d stumbled to her border, empty of all that had made him a subject of interest and an aspired guest, because so much of him that he’d ever shown anyone had been this love, this unconditional thing, seemingly the most simplistic of emotions, yet the most difficult and gut-wrenching. Omni couldn’t begin to fathom how in the world Sombra had always lived without it. As the lowest of his lows, moments ago had been proof of the profound theory that love made the world go round, engaged the sun and the moon, and created such lovely days as they intruded upon at the current hour. The pain of this lesson he’d learned sent his cranium to the dirt, bowing to whatever forces had decided his punishment in order to achieve the ultimate award: to be by Satowra, to support her, always in view of her power and her eyes, that would now come from all directions, until the end of his days. Because Omni was not leaving again.

As if in living testament of the promise he had just made to her, the alabaster male dropped to the alphess’s side, regarding her as nothing more than a wolf whom he loved more than anything in the world, who he was willing to die for sooner than be parted again. His paws tucked around her as comfortably as if they had never been apart, his nose against her neck fur until the shivering quieted, the sobs lessening while lesions of unease broke through the silence while he anticipated her next words. It had been his soul that had poured from his lips mere seconds ago, and they had denounced his one true love to tears. What that meant he could only guess; flailing about in the dark like a beggar does in search for loose change on the city streets. Omni: a beggar. He was still on the border of looking like one, though for all the world seeming like a fallen angel in his snowy white, tinged with a sepia edge, lit by the sun while he gently suppressed the roiling female with a chivalry that roared awake at her distress. Her nose leant towards the dirt between her paws, and he stepped from her then, watching as the calm slowly rolled over her body, dispelling the years of hurt and the pain that’d shed out beyond her lands of healing, allowing the air to soak it up and vanquish it to darker parts of the vast lands of Blossom Forest, to haunt another couple going against fate. Cocking his head almost comically, he made sure that she would not chance a glance up before running his fine gaze over her rather fine figure, picking out each miniscule detail from her pelt to restore the image of her glory as it was without the nuisance of his tears. Maybe it was wrong to think such thoughts during this time, but she was truly gorgeous. Like this, honest and pure as she was to him his whole life, he would never ask her to be anything less, just as he would never ask her to relinquish any part of herself for his own selfish benefit.

What that meant…he dared not let his mind wander. Not just yet.

Thus, her rising to the surface was both celebrated and awaited slightly apprehensively, for he knew she would not hold back in her words, should any still be crafted by her velvet cranium after her bout of sentiment. He reached out to nudge her still-shaky form, to help her rise, but she was already up, unsteady but independent, with her banner hanging as a sudden shock back to reality pin straight behind her back legs. He recognized it and pulled himself immediately into a responding rather statuesque form, with respect shown by the thin brush of his tail along the back of his paws, unable to repress a quick grin at the friendly motion he swore Satowra’s took. Her words, when they began, had the consistency of wet parchment, thin and floppy with the syllables as transparent as the paper and running off until they were undecipherable. It didn’t take him long, however, to interpret what she was saying as repetition from her former speech, but much easier to hear without the film of her tears, and more deeply understood after all that passed between them in the short time since he’d first come to the borders. Therefore, he was able to nod in time with her comments with sincerity, flinching at some as they drove straight towards his tender heart, until the life of the matter shone briefly in her words, the golden day suddenly paling in comparison to the joy that radiated in his being. “My love for you has never been extinguished and never shall be, especially not by my own teeth and claws. To hear you say such things, declare your love for me in no uncertain terms, it is truly the fabric of my dreams and cannot be real,”

But it is real, Satowra, this time I am real.

“Your forgiveness means the world to me. If it should mean the same to you then I forgive you freely, for the fault that has pulled at both of our hearts has been lightened in this hour, and our love has re-established what I never thought to be possible. The strength of such passion should not have to be contained, and I hope it never shall be again.” He danced closer to her during his talk, his turquoise eyes serious, but his light smile providing a lilting atmosphere that he hoped could infect each of them soon, so they could return to the beautiful day with whole-hearted acceptance and excitement for the future. But alas, it was not to be. He had not missed her final remark, although the feel of her on his neck, so close, so right almost had him lost for words or knowledge again, pushing back into her with all of the might of his love before Omni’s eyes grew troubled, and he left the giddiness of this turn of events to gaze endlessly into the noon-time sky. Then: “My dear, my love, you know I cannot stay. What of your pack, and your responsibilities? I would be nothing but a hindrance and what of your packmates? Were they aware of your troubles? I would be an outcast as I deserve to be, and I cannot spread unrest through this new love of your life with a good conscience.” His eyes fluttered shut, still savoring her touch and responding to it by trying to make contact with every inch of their pelts he could, letting his body pivot so that their full lengths looked out on the distance together. Omni murmured softly, “But I do not want to leave.”
