When dawn had just flown, and morn hardly shown,
You will not be forgotten, never forgotten.
Prehistoric Africa was home to both humans and fairies. They did not live in peace, in a world where the two races lived hand and hand. The humans were nothing but slaves to the fairies, free resources. They were expected to build, hunt, gather, and bow down to their fairy slave masters. The relationship was never a happy one. Human were beaten into submission, forced to breed for selected traits.
To the fairies of prehistoric Africa, the homo sapiens living there were nothing but an experiment, a breeding project. They wanted to better their slaves, make them more robust and live longer. If the fairies wanted more humans with broad shoulders, they would breed two humans with broad shoulders. If they wanted babies with less body hair, again, they would breed two humans with minimal body hair (for that day and age). They wanted them stronger and capable to do more work in a days’ time. It was all about what they could do to make the human race better. Not to make the humans better than the fairies, no, just enough to make them work better as slaves. With better slaves, they didn’t require quite as many. At the head of the breeding operation was Mallos, Aura, and Gwythr. In reality, they were the leaders of the fairies, the ones who truly ran the show.
But something changed one morning. As Mallos had gone out into the human population to pick the next female for a new special project, he looked up to see a large beacon of sorts. There was a bright, green light that had shot straight into the clouds. It was large and nestled far, far south east. To their knowledge, there was nothing there but ocean. Confused and yet, curious, Mallos left his task and went searching for Aura and Gwythr. Together, they decided something had to be done: someone had to travel to the beacon of light.
Aura, being the most stable of the fairies, decided to use this opportunity as a way to enhance the breeding program. Who knew if there would be more species out there like the humans, capable of being trained to work? In her eyes, she saw this as an opportunity to advance the human race. It was where the beacon lay that she wanted to start a new civilization. And so, together, she and Gwythr each gathered one third of the workforce. Mallos would be left with his third to essentially do as he pleased.
Without a moment to lose, Aura and Gwythr were off to figure out just what the strange beacon was. The journey was slow, most of which was because of the young children. The ones the mother’s couldn’t carry were trailing behind, whining and being generally obnoxious. Gwythr wanted to just toss them to the animals, but Auro had put her foot down on the issue: the children were to remain alive. One day, they would be able to breed.
As they passed into Arabia, the group slowed to rest for two nights instead of just one. It was becoming agitating that the humans had to rest and regroup. But by the time they were ready to leave again, there were some missing humans, never to be found again. Some say they settled into the space between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to become the Macedonians. Some say they traveled north to settle and become the Romans and the Greeks. It will forever be a mystery.
Cutting their losses, Aura and Gwythr gathered up the ground and continued traveling east along the coastline, looking for a route to the beacon. As they moved into eastern Asia, their numbers continued to diminish. These would one day become the Chinese, Indians and the Russians. By the time Aura and Gwythr made it to the very tip of Asia, the beacon even larger and brighter off into the distance, the number of humans gathered had gone from two thirds of the original human population to roughly one third. Those that were left were instructed to build two rafts large enough to carry them across the ocean until they reached the beacon.
Once the rafts were completed and stocked with food, spears, and nets, the group split onto the two rafts. One was commanded by Aura while the other was commanded by Gwythr. The seas were rough and Gwythr’s raft never made it to the beacon. It crash landed on an island. However, Aura’s raft was able to safely navigate the islands until she was within a mile of the beacon. Unfortunately, the beacon was just in the middle of the ocean. She could see no reason why there was a beacon here. That was until she heard a roaring sound, one homologous to a jet plane as it swooped over her head. Looking up, she saw something flying in the air, something she had never seen before. It was made of something hard and metallic. It flew, but not like a bird would. It had no wings. It was round in shape with a dome on the top. And then, someone from the back of the raft shouted.
Land.
Just a few miles ahead of them, past the beacon, there was a shoreline. Curious, Aura had her humans steer the raft to the shoreline. And when they arrived, they were met with a strange new species. They were tall, very slender with large heads with pointed chins. Their skin was a sickening green color, their eyes too big for their faces. They were a strange race with strange technologies. The flying bird she had seen earlier was nestled on the beach and more of these strange beings were piling out of it. When they had all stepped onto the beach, the beings came forward, speaking to them in a series of clicks and whistles. Some of the smarter humans ran to seek shelter away from whatever these things were. Aura, and the other curious ones, stayed back to observe.
Unfortunately for those left behind, the ‘aliens’ saw them and like the smart beings they were, saw them as a workforce, free labor. And so, they were abducted right off the beach and loaded into one of the round flying things (which would later be known as spaceships or flying saucers) and sent into outer space to work for the beings left on Mars.
A note from the author: Recent archeological studies show that Mallos’ humans became the country of Egypt, the creators of the great pyramids, were Mallos was said to be buried. The pyramid housing Mallos was broken into and it is uncertain if his body was kidnapped or he was ever dead to begin with. Gwythr’s group became the Japanese, changing the world’s automobile industry. Aura’s group was never heard from again. Perhaps their lack of oxygen had them dying before they even left the atmosphere. Who knows? They could still be on Mars. All the stragglers left to make their own communities with each other. They became the Romans, the Greeks, the Russians, the Chinese, etc. And the aliens? This was just their first trip to Earth. With Earth’s rich resources, it’s no surprise that there have been reports of them walking the planet from time to time.
