Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesRe(1): Cory's Least Bittern

Marion

A verified sighting of a Cory's Least Bittern would be very exciting news indeed. Jean Irons, one of Ontario's top birders describes it as a “very rare” colour morph of the [also uncommon] Least Bittern.

However, identifying colour morphs is a task for very experienced birders and according to David Sibley, another bird expert, there have been only 5 confirmed sightings of a Corey's since 1950. [see: http://www.sibleyguides.com/2011/07/the-mysterious-dark-least-bittern/].

More information on where the sighting was made and clear photographs would be required before this record would be accepted by the wider birding community. Can you recall exactly where the sighting took place, or give directions to the spot?
