Budapest Film Academy – Commercial video contest

The Budapest Film Academy, which will begin its activity in September 2011, invites you to participate in its viral video contest.

Budapest Film Academy (BFA) and Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) have joined forces to launch an English and Hungarian language film academy in September 2011, offering practical film studies to students who would like to become industry professionals.

2. Competition guidelines
The Budapest Film Academy expects short (1-3 minutes) creative videos, preferably in English (or with English subtitles), which can effectively spread through the internet as viral videos, promoting the Budapest Film Academy.
There are no restrictions regarding the genre or the form. The only requirement for the video is to be as original, witty and memorable as possible, urging the viewer to share it with his/her friends.

The winner of the contest will be awarded a filmmaking course of his/her choice (writing-directing, acting, producing, cinematography-editing-sound engineering) and in addition he/she is invited to attend our Film Analysis course which has a practical approach as well. The courses are worth 1800 €, and are part of the Budapest Film Academy / ELTE program.
There may be more than one winners, if there are truly outstanding works.
The Budapest Film Academy will also provide extensive publicity to the top 5 videos of the contest as part of our online campaign. We will also organise a screening for the ELTE teachers who will help the filmmakers with their constructive and professional advices.

All videos must be uploaded to YouTube. The links must be sent via e-mail to the address, with the following subject: „Budapest Film Academy commercial video contest”.
Submission deadline: 14th September, 2011.

5. Rules and requirements
Primary expectation of a video is to be based on an original and memorable idea, which has the ability to catch the attention of the audience, and to urge them to share this viral video. Professional technical implementation is considered an advantage, but the most important aspects of the evaluation are the originality and wit of the idea. The Budapest Film Academy is primarily interested in the creativity of the contestant, not in his/her technical expertise.
There are no technical restrictions for the uploaded videos. HD quality is an advantage, but not a requirement.
We request the contestants to keep the original, high resolution format (AVI, MOV, DVD, DIVX) video files, since we will need those for the spreading of the top 5 video. We will inform the contestants concerned via e-mail.
A person may participate with more than one video.
The contest is open to all. Beginner and professional filmmakers may apply as well.
By sending the link of the video, the contestant accepts that the Budapest Film Academy can freely use the shorts for its marketing campaign, and will not pay any fee to the filmmaker.
Videos with pornographic or offensive content will be immediately disqualified, and the Budapest Film Academy distances itself from them.

6.Judging criteria
The Budapest Film Academy will screen the videos and sort out the best of them according to the above mentioned restrictions. The selected shorts will be published on the Budapest Film Academy’s website as well, where the audience will vote and choose the winner(s).
