The pup was, at first glance, fairly sweet. She had wide, sea green eyes, and a sleek black pelt striped with blue grey; her paws and ear tips were light sky-blue. As she walked, she squabbled companionably with her fellow travellers- a white wolf of her own age, and a Tigre cub.

The white cub’s name was Torment, and she was Decoys sister, vain even in childhood. Her white pelt was spotless, except for her black rimmed ears and the delicate black ivy-leaf patterns that wove their way through her fur pattern. Her eyes- more angular than her sisters- were soft, hazy grey-purple, the colour of twilight.

The tigre, Narcissa, was a more recent addition who the sisters had met when they first came to these lands- with the easy friendship of very young children, the trio hadn’t taken long to become fast friends. The cub was about the same size as the cubs, maybe a bit bigger- certainly more heavy built. Her pelt was light, light blond, almost white- and her fur, while not quite curly, had a definite kink to it. Her eyes were dark wine red, and the two ivory points that would one day become sabre teeth where clearly visible poking out from beneath her upper lip.

That would be what you’d see at first glance. Most people would look no further- there was no cause for suspicion, the three children were clearly getting along famously, occasionally breaking off their progress down the river for a quick, tumbling play fight.

But, an observant watcher might notice the two white fangs showing on Decoy’s black maw, the fangs that marked her out as the Vampire she was.

And an exceptionally watchful onlooker might notice a similar pair of fangs on Torment’s maw, along with the neat bite mark on her throat that showed where Decoy had bitten her. The wound was nearly healed over, and was kept clean enough that it was barely visible beneath the white pelt.

There was a similar wound on Narcissa’s neck, this time inflicted by Torment, stopping the Tigre from being afflicted with Vampirism. It was fresher than Torment’s wound, and deeper, but it had still long since stopped bleeding.

It was a good arrangement, working three ways to keep them all happy and well fed. Narcissa got friendship, Decoy got blood, and Torment got all the powers of Vampire Heart without the side affects of creating new enemies every time she didn’t feel like finishing a meal.
