Uncertainty sang through her form, leaving the now familiar comfort of the Vistas in favor of following the grey she had led through the shale slick Ridges, across the snowy passes and into the deserts of her people. The same grey that had stood beside her as they toed the edge of the Totaxon ravine, peering dizzily downward at the sheer cliffs, the same grey had heard the rattle of the Bone Maples in the wind, felt their skeletal branches dragging at their skin. Was 'friend' too strong of a term for this? Muir was a friend. Dalit, Hollis, Avani. She could easily list multitudes of names as friends, but this one? This stranger, this nonbeliever, this heretic? Was she really a heretic in the end? She had seemed changed by all the crimson girl had to show her, awed by their stories. Even now, as she trailed yards upon yards behind the mare who's eyes she may have opened, she noticed the difference in her walk, her presence than when they had started their journey into the west.
The copper banner of her tail switched nervously against her haunches, noting the changing terrain, the growing smell of others. Ophelia had mentioned a kingdom, or queendom really, some time during their trip. Was this where she was headed? How would they accept her? Would they accept her? A thousand questions filled her mind, quickly filling her skull, spilling around the grey matter that spawned them. She didn't understand their leadership or how it had come about. Star children were even, fair in their duties. New leaders were determined at the change of the seasons through a random draw through the herd, excluding those determined to be too dangerous or dull to safely lead the herd. Two males or two females leading together was anything but uncommon for them. Her own father had led equally with another male, Hollis' own father if she remembered correctly.
Ears pricked sharply as another approached the mare she had been tailing, pupils readjusting their size to focus on the monochrome hide and the wings tucked against her sides. She had long ago learned to hold off judging who was what based on physical attributes here. Though wings were common in Star Child society, it didn't mean they were rare or even impossible here. Many horses she had run into had wings or a horn, sometimes both. Some could change shape or take on the form of another, some could even vanish at will! Slowly her gait halted, remaining on the shaded edge of the forest, watching closely as another joined the quickly growing reunion on the lakeshore. This one she recognized and if she was honest, this one had recognized her first, approaching her while she lolligagged in the Vistas. Hesitantly, she pulled herself from the shadows, crimson splattered skin shivering at the first touches of warm summer sun across her withers, crossing the distance between herself and the quartet.
Hardly even a sigh passed from her lungs as she joined them, trailing her whiskery but soft muzzle across Ophelia's ribs in greeting. A small smile of recognition was passed from her to Solaris, but Arianah and her filly drew nothing more dramatic than a curious ear prick. She wouldn't be the one to interrupt, at least not anymore than she already had. She was wary in a group of this size, weight shifting from foreleg to foreleg, especially when she was unsure how half of the group might feel about her.
