Shadow shifted her weight, fidgeting. She was eager to return to the comfort and safety of the treeline, but she wasn't willing to make the move. She watched as he trudged out of the water. He was indeed quite a sight, half wet, half dry, just standing there. She was so torn in what really to do. She had imagined seeing her family again, but it was never quite this awkward. It was always happy, smiling faces, words that made everything alright. It was never quite like this. She was at a loss for words, and she doubted nothing she could say would make up for her long, long absence.

Shadow looked to the ground as his words reached her. Yes, it had been so long. She missed so much of his life because she was selfish. She turned her gaze to him once more. "Yes, Deku, it has been a very long time. And, I am sorry for that." She was, she truly was sorry. It meant little that she always came back to the mountain in the end, what mattered was the fact that she always left to begin with. She was never around, she couldn't be relied upon. She had abandoned her own family, her flesh and blood. And for what? She never really knew why she had to always leave, true, she was a wanderer, but there were plenty of places to wander on the mountain. She didn't have to leave it.

She watched him as he looked away. Yes, this weird, so very weird. Nothing like her dreams, her imaginings. The were essentially strangers, the only thing holding them together was the fact that they were family. "As are you," she muttered. She wanted to know what he had been up to in her absence, if he had seen his father, or his siblings around. But, she was unsure how to ask. He reminded her of herself, in his actions and the way he was holding himself right now. Somehow she didn't think he spent much, if any time, near the rest of their family. He was a loner. It saddened her a little, to know that any of her children lived like she did, it was not a life she'd choose for anyone. "How have you been? What have you been up to?" She was going to ask if he had a family of his own, but she already knew the answer to that question.
