Well, Cherie from NM who has SMs and has worked with the Hammers Spanish type Sulphurs and Spanish type Sulphur x SM crosses would very much disagree that SMs have the same amount of brio. She and I both agreed from our own personal experiences with both types that the SM is much more laid back than the Spanish type Sulphur. Her fav. was the Spanish type Sulphur x SM cross. She said that the horse has a lot of the brio of the Spanish type Sulphur, but has more of a calmness from the SM.
My experience comes from knowing both kinds of horses in person and is fact imo.
