aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

I find myself wandering near the center of Aurora, nostrils twitching as I study every scent left over from the meeting. I can recall where every wolf was sitting or standing during the meeting and take the time now with their absence to sniff the ground and memorize each and every scent. That way I'm never mistaken on who is from Aurora and whose an intruder. I'm sure that more new comers are coming in whose scent I won't recognize at first but at least I'll have a hint of what Aurora smells like so I can better track the pack members. It's just a simple precaution I take upon entering a pack. I did the same for Munashii.

My chest tightens at the thought of what used to be my home, my sanctuary. I can still recall the grateful look on Paranoia's face when she returned to Munashii, only to find it empty and sparse of life. All because of me. I failed her and yet she still wanted me to take the position of Beta. I let her soldiers disappear and then chased off the others in my blackened rage that I couldn't control. I failed her and I'll never forgive myself for it. I wonder what happened to her brother Angel. Did they find another pack to rule? He was a fair leader if a little dark in the mind.

I can't bring myself to think of Jaylah or Miya. No, that would be too painful. I saw Jaylah again for the first time in months some weeks back. She looked just as breathlessly beautiful as ever, her heart bitter and her body that of a warrior. I can tell that she's stuck like glue to her vows. I'm proud of her and yet a sadness stabs my heart. Miya in her innocence I can't even begin to fathom what may have become of her. I can only hope that nothing bad happened to her. Hopefully she didn't try returning to the borders of Munashii and change her mind, calling me a daft fool for turning her away. I know she can do much better than them.

Now my curiosity shifts to my new pack mates. I don't know much if anything about them. I can tell who the leaders are or were at some point in time. One is gone, Freedom, the male. The other still lives here with her mate and children, Akina. The current alpha is Sin, a blind female but she's stronger than steel and needs no sight to really "see" the others. I swear she can see right through my disguise, my path of redemption to set right what I did wrong so long ago now. I will never see that balance set right so I can only keep fighting to do what I can to right it.

My paws take me to a massive oak tree and I sit beneath it's comforting branches, my back just inches from its scratching trunk as I stare up through the branches at the watchful moon overhead. I always find myself wondering about my future when I'm alone. Will that beast ever come out again? I can only hope not.
