Misty Mountain is opposite of Rainbow Cliff. Mists hover year-round at this high altitude, mistaken by some to be thin clouds. Thin layers of snow cover the mountain, making some areas slippery and hazardous.

The snow pressed under the rough callus of his pads is dry and airy. He pauses, licks quickly at the ice-matted hair between his toes, trying to work away the frozen clump that is hobbling him. Cold crystals stick to his lashes. He blinks, and walks on. Only finding shelter will grant any respite from the biting wind. Snow, sharp and fine as powdered glass, whips at his face. It occurs to him that he could die here: freeze in these brutal elements or simply stumble off the mountain in the whiteout. Now is not the time to ponder mortality, however. Set two feet down, lift the others until he is safe or until he can do no more.

A shadowy form in the white: sharp crags of rock rising higher than he can see, bared by the blazing wind, and at their foot, a small space; less a cave than a cubby. Still, he is joyous at the discovery and picks up his pace. He eagerly squeezes into the shelter, and finally out of the wind, he collapses, spent. He wonders how Rhodes is faring far to the south, on a mission of conquest and pride. Already his uncle seems a world away.

His head snaps up. There is nothing that can be heard past the roar of the storm, but the face intruding upon his nook of the mountain is compelling evidence that he is not alone.
