Encantador was barely four years old, and yet he felt twice - nay, thrice - that number. In truth, it had not been so very long ago that he had felt truly young and carefree, but those had been the days when his family had still been intact, the humungous extended family that was the Harbor herd, and his parents had been alive. These days he often mused just how foolish he had been in those days, when he had stolen and claimed mares without a care and gawked at his father's overly-serious methods of ruling.

These days, he was all introspection: little was left of the Encantador that had smiled and made friends with ease and danced along the waves of his birth home. He was becoming, he had realized with a jolt, his father. Part of him resisted this, for it had been his father's solemn, guilt-ridden nature that had pushed him to commit suicide, but despite himself, the former heir of the Harbor could now understand precisely how his green-eyed sire had done things the way he did. With age, and experience, came wisdom... and misery.

The young, thin stallion stood in the blaze of the sun, the light bouncing off his cream-colored pelt which kept him relatively cool considering the sweltering heat. He was digging at the baked ground without really realizing what he was doing, his chipped slate-grey hooves scraping at the dust and sand to reveal darker, richer earth hidden beneath. His eyes were clouded, his mind completely absent; he was remembering the various family members that he'd been reunited with during his time here, and how he hadn't expected to come across any of them at all. In particular, he thought of Woe, and the grave news she had unintentionally brought him... It had been only days ago that he had met her, and the news that his mother had been dead all this time had scarcely left his mind since.

Part of him had expected it, however, and so, to his surprise, he had shed not a single tear. He felt remarkably empty, his emotions as scarce and barren as the desert he lived in.

When the call roused him, Encantador lifted his head abruptly, startled not just by the silence it had broken but by the stutter that had accompanied it. Turning his eyes to gaze, squinting, into the sun, there in the distance he saw a tall male figure, tawny as the sand that surrounded it. Before he was aware of what he was doing, he found himself cantering easily across the ground to reach the stranger, his heart pounding with anticipation. Could it be...?

He halted, kicking up dust, just a few paces from the young stallion who had summoned him, and instantly, he knew who he was dealing with. He had not been close with Baron, but he had seen enough of him around the Harbor before their parents had departed to know his half-brother when he saw him: particularly when the sibling involved bore a coat almost perfectly the same as his own, though perhaps a little darker, still retaining the golden tones of youth that had not been bleached by the desert sun as his own had been.

He gaped at his younger brother, one ear twisted back against his raven crest, who stood almost like a messiah-type figure with the sun at his back, giving him an ethereal halo. It felt strange to be looking up at one younger than him, but the knowledge that he had been reunited with yet another long-lost family member outweighed the envy he might normally feel. "B-Baron, is that you?" he stammered, accidentally imitating Baron's speech impediment.
