Ennuis lifted his head, peering around the Ridge. He smelled the scent of a foal, one like Rory’s had been when she was younger. Locating the area it was coming from, he set off at the brisk trot, almost like his father. The scent was new, and becoming more powerful by the moments. His pace sped up as he could smell it, inculding Rory too. Bursting into the clearing, he stared at the small chestnut bundle that Rory was nursing.

His eyes ran along he beautiful chestnut coat, much like his own. And of course, much like Rory’s too. His gaze lifted, and he found himself staring at Rory. She was tense, ready for danger. He walked up, nuzzled her, and moved to defend the mother and her filly. He could figure out the filly’s name later, but right now he wanted to make sure that his family was safe from any harm. He hoped Rory would understand, and he hoped that his father did the exact same thing. Or was his father simply stupid, and instead chatting with the mare who had given birth?

Ennuis almost shuddered at the thought, not knowing if his father made sure to protect him when he was just born. Sure, his leg grew in and he was abe to out run danger until someone came to his rescue, but as a newborn he would just be easy prey. And more so he was in danger while his father drew his dam’s attention away from him. Ennuis knew that he was giving Rory more time to bond with her foal this way, later he could bond with his own children.

Ennuis would rather bond with them later, instead of bonding them right away and giving a chance of a predator to sneak up and get the foal before Ennuis could do anything. If that had hapened, there would never be another later. He quickly shoved all of the thoughs out of his mind, now focusing more for danger.
