The warmth of the jungle was something she had accustomed to rather quickly. This was her element, the heat and the steam. The jungle was as much hers as she was its and it was a wonderful relationship. By now she knew almost every tree, bush, and flower and they could feel her coming. Some pulled out of her way to let her pass, some reached out to gently brush her coat. They had never met anyone who could hear their thoughts and whispers before. It had taken some time to cultivate the trait. Higher animals could communicate with her in words, smaller ones with pictures. But the trees, they had no words or eyes. They communicated in emotion. Being connected to every plant being in the forest was like being submerged in a calming bath. Unless a plant was harmed, they were perpetually calm. It was stabilizing, it was home.

So when the pattern of emotional stability around her changed, she had to investigate. Trees were very sensitive to goings on around them; tense altercations made them uneasy. Pri couldn’t blame them. If there was a fire horse around, they tended to throw flames around whenever agitated. Obviously, the forest didn’t like that. As she moved towards the sound, the forest shifted around her, always forming a kind of umbrella to keep her as dry as possible in the rain. The drops that did reach her caused steam to rise in small tendrils from her coat. Soon, she realized she was on a path leading towards the waterfall and slowed her steps so she could see what was going on before making her presence known. She was not coming along one of the paths but instead through the jungle itself, so she was well screened and able to watch without worry for a few minutes. She didn’t like what she saw.

Pri had stolen Cavalli personally. The satisfaction was too much to pass up. But, that did mean she had to share him with her sisters. Serafina was no sister. They may have somewhat of a truce with the South, but that did not mean that the mare had free reign to enter the jungle. The gray mare’s ears plastered back to her head as she contemplated this. This was certainly aggravating, but she felt closer to furious. Why? It couldn’t be because she was obviously flirting with Cavalli, could it? Cavalli was an enemy, Pri wasn’t supposed to like him. And she really didn’t. But, at the same time, there was an undeniable sense that he was hers and only she could play with him.

Deciding she had seen enough, Pri resolved to make her entrance. Both horses before her had seen her both her sarcastic and softer side. Neither had seen the ferocity that put her in the running for Valkyrie Queen. She may not have achieved the position, but she was certainly ready to enforce their laws as if she had. The jungle before her pulled apart with ominous cracks, making an oval shaped hole for her to step through to the two before her. Her mood had caught on to the trees as suddenly the normal sounds of the forest shifting became almost more agitated sounding, almost violent. Or was that perhaps all in the imagination of the two before her? Would they attribute it to the gray mare, or simply pass it off as coincidence. Only Tick Tock knew of her affinity to living things. It was a well kept secret.

Her dark eyes smouldered but were unreadable as she walked up to the two in silence, stopping a few feet from them. “Oh, sorry. Have I broken up your little party?” Her words were quiet, low, dangerous. The air around her seemed almost electric as she gazed impassively at Cavalli for a moment. He didn’t know she had been watching. He may think that she stepped out just in time to see Sera getting close. To him, it may appear that Pri thinks he likes Sera a little too much. The gray takes satisfaction in this and keeps her gaze neutral, hoping it makes him say something.

But then her attention turns to Sera and she raises herself up, allowing her anger to fuel her words. “Do not make the mistake in thinking you are welcome here, Serafina. We may have decided to leave the South alone for now, but that does not mean you are free to traipse into the jungle whenever you please. Now, I suggest you get out, or the jungle will drag you out.” It was most certainly a threat as a handful of vines writhed from the forest towards their mistress, climbing her legs to await her request. She did favours for the jungle whenever she could, just to have this priviledge. “If you persist in returning, you will find the jungle closed to you. It will do everything in its power to keep you out if I say so.” A slight, almost maniacal smile crossed her lips. She hadn’t been this angry, this frightening, ever in her life. And it was refreshing.
