Gingivitis/Periodontal disease

My teeth seem to be moving around but are firm. A dentician(I made this word up)mentioned I may have periodontal disease. I looked it up online and sometimes my gums do hurt or feel inflamed even though I brush twice a day, floss once a day, and use a water pick once a day. What more can I do and do you think brushing with p'daurco for awhile might reduce any swelling or pain? Is this a serious problem that I should have checked out? My finances are terrible at the moment and don't have $400- to spend on a check up and tooth cleaning but if it's really necessary, then I guess I'll have to go. Thanks.
