Circa Meeting Tuesday, March 13, 2012
The Midtown Home of Richard Mafong and Jon Eric Riis
Our first meeting for 2012 will be a special one--not only at a wonderfully
renovated Midtown home, but also a chance to meet and view work created by
the two world-renowned artists who own and renovated the residence!
Jon Eric Riis and Richard Mafong and their work were the subject of a recent
show by the Museum of Design Atlanta in its new space across from the High.
Riis, a fiber artist, and Mafong, working in metal and wood, have their
art in corporate and museum collections internationally and have won
numerous major awards. Their creations are stunning, unforgettable.
The house has quite a history. It was built in 1904 for poet Emily
Dickinson 's family. The second owners, the Howard family, also owned many
theaters, including Loew's Grand. Later occupied by a dental fraternity
and then sadly as a flophouse, the current owners undertook an extensive
renovation as you will see.
Date/Time: Tuesday, March 13; Gather 6:30, remarks and tour 6:45
Place: The Home of Richard Mafong and Jon Eric Riis, 875 Piedmont Avenue at
7th Street , Midtown
Park on nearby streets.
Members and first time visitors free; Returning guests $10. Membership forms
will be available. No children please, given the nature of our hosts'
collections.
