aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Always too late. I was too late to save the innocents I killed while I wasn't....myself. I was too late to save more that I ended up torturing and killing the second time the darkness took over. And I knew I was too late that morning that I ended up outside Akina's den, smelling the fresh blood and looking at the darkness, not wanting to know what I'd find inside. I could hear crying and I knew that it sounded like Akina. I didn't investigate further because I didn't want to disrupt her alone time or stress her out further, make her think whoever had done this was back. Even so, I make circles outside the den, nose to the ground, mind busy at work memorizing all the scents there so that I would know the wolves who did this if I ever come across them.

When I was sure I would know, I dip my head once toward Akina's den, apologies in my eyes. Sorry that I wasn't here to help. Sorry that I wasn't here to protect innocent lives. Sorry that I was too late.

I laid low for a few days, but I did try to approach a female named Talia, trying to make idle conversation, but I couldn't get those images out of my head. All that blood outside the den, those smells, so vicious and blood curdling. Not knowing what was inside that den was almost worse than if I'd bothered to check. In my nightmares, sometimes I'd see flashes of a dead pup or Akina herself dead, but when I checked again later that afternoon, I could still hear her shuffling around inside the den and so I knew that she was alive. When I checked again later, I caught a recent whiff of Sin's perfume, letting me know that Akina was in safe paws now. Maybe if I knew these wolves better, I would be more comfortable about approaching them and offering to help. As it were, I feel guilty, as if I'd done this abominable thing. As if I were to blame, even though I know that I've never smelled those wolves before in my life.

Sin's call ringing out disrupts my thoughts as I sit on a little perch overlooking the pack lands. I've been lost in thought a lot lately, thinking about those scents, wondering where I'd have to start to find them. Ears flicking back, I know that Sin's calling me, calling all of her pack wolves. I could sense some sorrow in the call but I can't even begin to guess what she's lost. Standing up, I move into a smooth lope toward her call, knowing the clearing is my destination. It's where all the meetings are held.

As I arrive, I catch a whiff of Vela's perfume too. She seems to be quite close to Sin and Akina so I'm sure she will be offering her support. Good, cause I'm no good at comforting. I thought I was but how can I comfort someone when I've taken so much myself? I was once a killer, cold blooded and vicious. I tortured and killed countless pups and adult wolves in my life. None of them deserved it, just as I don't deserve to live now. But I do, and so I've tried to make up for it by doing good. Some good I'm doing. Because of me, who knows what happened that night at Akina's den.

Another wolf is there, a pup cowering before Sin, his body looking mutilated. His leg is twisted all wrong and his side has a large lump in it. My nose wrinkles up, brow furrowing in concern. I stop off to the side, feeling awkward and out of place, my tail curling behind me as I dip my head toward Sin, knowing that she can't see it but sure that she can feel the respect I have for her anyway. King Kong, present. I call out softly, sure that she will hear me and know that I'm here, even though she will have already picked up on my cologne. Even so, I feel like I should let her know that I'm here for her and Akina and everyone else, here for her to do with as she will. I feel so guilty. I should have been there. I should have stopped them. What good am I alive if I can't stop things like this from happening?
