The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
it’s not the destination so much as the journey

The only rules that really matter are these:
what a man can do and what a man can’t do.

The charged atmosphere shifts, some of the pent-up tension hanging palpable of the air easing with the subtle extension of friendship from Encantador.

Friend. It was a word that sounded as foreign in his mind as it felt on his tongue, but it curled the thin line of his lips into a smile nevertheless. Perhaps he would not have gone so far as to claim friendship when their previous encounter had been brief and wordless, but it was certainly better than the alternative. As far as the Desert herd went, Debonaire had already made an enemy on their behalf - so to come out of the situation with negativity hounding his heels from their side, too, would have been most unsettling.

Allowing his stance to relax into the usual casual pose - bearing little of the dignity of his position, but showing just enough of the grit beneath his soft appearance to hold a subtle warning - Debonaire watches the exchange between the mare Soraya and Encantador with what seems to be detachment. In truth, however, his shrewd gaze is studying the subtle nuances of posture, his ears perked for the slightest hint in tone to contradict the words that were spoken. So this Soraya was a mare of Encantador's ally, eh? Either she was a tribute sent to warm the relationship, or a brave (if reckless) girl for wandering so far from home, even among one with whom her leader had a pact. As his gaze flicks to meet her equally shrewd eyes, he decides it is the latter - and resolves to learn more about her, perhaps by meeting with this Tuff Luck himself.

But she is departing now, her tawny form being swallowed by the haze of sand and sun, bringing attention to the true business at hand.

Though well accustomed to the harshest glares of the sun, Debonaire begins to feel muddled by the heat, the edges of his nerves fraying as he squirms restlessly beneath the inquiring gazes of Encantador and Razvan. It seems that as the initiator of this little soiree, he was expected to open the proverbial can of worms. Clearing his vocal chords of the grit with a hoarse sound, he shifts once more with a longing glance cast in the direction Soraya and Mellow had departed, then meets Encantador's eyes and throws his reservations to the wind.

"Last time I came, it was to return a woman and her child to their rightful family. I spoke little with you then Encantador, but much with Razvan - as I am certain you two have already discussed that meeting, I will keep this short. I made it clear that Sahara was his and that I was relinquishing my claim to her. I also spoke of...a debt."

Here he pauses, squeezing his dark eyes shut momentarily - hoping, like a child, that those before him will disappear in the time they are thus hidden from sight. When he opens them, it is with a faltered resolve that he turns his attention now to Razvan, though he plunges recklessly on regardless.

"Razvan...if you were asked to repay this debt, what would you think to be suitable compensation?"

It would seem like negotiations were at hand, a price for a life returned being bargained - but in truth, it was all a ploy, a ploy for time and to avoid the heart of the matter. Debonaire fears the confession that must leave his lips before he departs this place - that he must admit that debts and repayment had been the last thing on his mind during any stage of his plans.

That he has a heart, and it governs him like any other living creature.

And makes him vulnerable.
