aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

It isn't long before the sweet nectar of Akina's perfume fills the air of the clearing. Even as sweet as it always is, my nose wrinkles up at the deposits of filth and malnourishment present in it this time. I turn my bright eyes to her entrance, catching wind of those defeated brown eyes and my heart seems to melt into a puddle. How can one creature take on so much pain and still live? Her eyes continue to flash over every other wolf present, ears flattened to her skull as if at any moment, one of us will lunge out at her. It's an awful sight to behold when I'm used to her being so sweet and confident. Not wanting to be caught staring since I'm sure most if not all of the other wolves present are looking her way, I drop my gaze to my paws, shuffling them timidly in the grass while my heart hammers wildly in my chest. Why couldn't I stop this? Why couldn't I end the hurt before it even began? Why didn't I smell the intruders? Isn't that what a good pack wolf does? Protects the pack? I'm a failure.

By this time, Akina is walking over to Sin. I glance up as she stops before the alphess, her own gaze dropped as if she's too defeated to even meet the unseeing eyes of her best friend. I've known since I joined that these two are close. I could sense it as I sense it now. Akina mumbles something about being late right before Darth comes running in, shouting his own pain over not having been able to do anything. Akina looks his way almost as if in a daze, as if she can't think clearly enough to do the reaction instantly. She turns her head away, the pain evident on the surface of her gaze before she turns back to the youth, telling him in the softest voice how none of it's his fault. I can't help but feel proud of her in this moment. She is brave, that's for sure.

She turns her head away from everyone but I catch a flash of the guilt in her eyes as she goes to sit off to the side. I narrow my eyes in wonder. What should one do in this situation? Simply let her sit by herself and wallow in her own guilt, thinking she'd done this crime? No, that doesn't seem right to me.

I'm about to make my move when another female enters the clearing, this one's scent still fresh to the lands of Aurora but a pack member none the less. She gives a single word from her lips as she sits in the back of the gathering. My eyes travel over her in curiosity and when she catches my gaze on her, I turn away sheepishly, not wanting her to get the wrong idea but not before catching the small smile on her lips. My ears flicker uncertainly and I would thank her for the gesture but why should I? I'm not the one needing the smile. Nothing happened to me. I'm just the one who didn't do anything. When I glance back over, she's looking up at Sin now so I turn my attention to yet another young female approaching the meeting.

She looks full of emotion, this young teen with the coat of many colors. She has the doe brown eyes of Akina so my only guess is that this is one of her brood and yet the emotions flicker hard and fast across her gaze. Fear, sadness, anger...too many to keep up with. My heart goes out to her, wishing there was more I could do. Anything I could do. I glance up when the female pauses her stride, looking over everyone with a nervous expression and yet her face looks so mature in that moment, as if whatever thoughts are passing through it are something a wolf twice her age would be thinking. When she finally moves forward into the clearing, her head is held high and I think of her mother. Brave wolves, the whole family, it would seem.

She turns her attention to the other youngster Darth and her voice comes out smooth as silk, asking him to sit near her. My gaze once more finds Akina's lone form. Would she appreciate the support of another creature sitting near her or would she only think of it as another seeing her weakness? Some females are so proud that they would be offended by the mere gesture of a male seeming protective over them and yet she looks so broken that I can't just sit here and do nothing. Sighing softly like a breeze, I react before I can talk myself out of it, getting up and shuffling ever so slowly over to where Akina is sitting. Without even looking up at her, sure that she would want to keep any thoughts and emotions she's feeling right now to herself, I keep my gaze down as I walk over and sit a foot or two away from her, merely sitting beside her, a straightened form of pure muscle, looking as if I'd take on the world before letting her fall again. And Tor knows, I wish I could.
