At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

The loss was one that none could comprehend. No, none had died, none had left and none had betrayed but it was still a loss. Things don’t just happen and then in a moment of darkness suddenly brighten again with the light of good. No, that only occurred in fairytales. The truth of the matter was that it was a loss and yet the multihued hessian was stupid enough to chance it. Now look where it had gotten him? It had gotten him attached to one who may not make it through the very night. He let a growl emanate from his chest as he paused around the giant stone, taking a break and lowering his gaze. How much more of this cruel life could one wolf take? Face it, existence wasn’t kind to even those who deserved it most. He was suffering and he would suffer, for what didn’t matter. He was suffering and he would continue to suffer until the angelic creature around the ben made a full recovery.

Letting out a deep sigh and bracing himself for the pain ahead, he lowered his head and locked his powerful jaws on the deer again, finishing his task in a hurried manner to return to her. Finally, the deed was done and he could travel back to the place where he had first met her. He knew what he was getting into before it every happened and yet the moron still gambled. As he familiar aroma entered his nares, he let a smile slide onto his face as he began to attempt to hide the wound yet again. As her pearl face came into view his smile faded and he faltered in his steps. He saw it in her eyes, the instant guilt and his heart wavered in its usually normal beating pattern. That was what he was dreading, that look, that feeling that was plaguing her. He sighed and stopped hiding it, letting the muscle relax and his limp to strengthen. No use hiding it now, she wasn’t stupid. As he made his way to her she faced away from him, hurting him more than the wound itself. “Dye…” He began but she interrupted with one quiet question that was more like a statement. Then another statement appeared, one even quieter and he had to strain to hear it.

He would’ve told her it wasn’t her fault if it had made any difference but he wasn’t stupid either. She was more stubborn than she looked and he knew that when she got better he would have a lot to put up with. If she got better, if she was still with him by then. He moved from his spot beside her and made his way in front of her, forcing her to look at him. “I’ll be alright. How are you?” His wound would heal eventually but she may die at any point in time. Instead of worrying about him she should be working on herself. His mere thoughts had shifted from anything except her; her perfume, her eyes, her everything. It drowned him in a blanket and suffocated him in the most perfect way. Like with his limp, he let his love for her go, relaxing the muscles in his heart and simply letting it happen.
