Re(1): low thyroid

Levothyroxine is very limited in its effects since it is only T4. The most biologically active thyroid hormone though is T3, which is normally produced from T4. Conversion does not always occur properly though, such as in the case of adrenal dysfunction. Therefore, I feel the Thyroid Tonic is a better choice as it supports the thyroid in various ways including promoting T4 to T3 conversion.

If you have been on Levothyroxine for a while though you cannot go off suddenly. Levothyroxine and other thyroid medications containing thyroid hormones will shut the thyroid down further over time. This is why the doctors gradually increase the dosage. As the thyroid shuts down from the medication the dosage of the medication has to be increased in order to compensate for the decline in hormones being released by the thyroid itself. If someone wants to come off of thyroid medications they have been on for a while then it must be done with gradual decreases in dosing to force the thyroid to start producing more hormones.

The tonic can be taken with the Levothyroxine giving it time to build up before trying to reduce the amount of thyroid medication.
