TJIKIJU had taken a longer rest than she'd intended, slouched against the roughened bark of the tree. She gave a hoarse cough, shaking her head as though something was tickling her ears. Her mind had been dulled by recent events and she failed to notice the old male coming closer until he announced himself, causing her to twitch in surprise and momentary fear. It took a moment for the elder to realize who had approached her, a safe friend rather than a cold hearted enemy.

THE she-wolf lit up almost instantly, she didn't smile but there was a brightness within her single gold eye that wasn't there before. She enjoyed the company of the blood and snow male, despite the fact that she still didn't know his name. She'd been alone for so long, wasting away, his presence was like a gift from heaven. He was the one who had found her when she'd first returned, the only one to comfort her and make her feel safe. He was her knight in shining armour, whether he knew it or not.

RAISING her skull, and her tail along with it, Tjikiju caught his gaze and followed it when he looked away, intently committing his face to memory. Perhaps he could banish those haunting images, he was not her brother, but he was here, he was real and safe. "Mister... ti nnros. Not be sick now, happy see you, yes yes. Ti kainjatyk aid." She would have stepped forward and nuzzled him in her gladness, but taking a wobbly step would probably end up with her on the floor. A very embarrassing position which, in her new state of mind, was something she wanted to avoid.

SINKING slowly to the floor, Tjikiju reached out and grabbed the rabbit, grateful for the taste of that sweet, warm flesh. It was a lifesaving substance and the lass savoured each and every bite of it, wasting nothing of the rich, red meat. She still appeared thin and weak, but there was more vigour to her movements as she filled her belly, quenching her hunger in front of the candy cane male that had given her hope. In between mouthfuls, Tjikiju kept flicking her gaze upwards, as if to make sure he was still there, still close.

TWITCHING an ear as the male spoke, the elder understood perfectly, always glad to talk about her home. She took a few breaths in between mouthfuls in order to reply. "No no, from long far away. From cold north lands, place call Elfrsinnkkra. Hmm, you say 'River of stone?'. Much much white, not so green, no no. Pretty like here, but different way, yes yes. Shine of ice and snow blind, unmoving river and great open, err, tundra?" The old wolf stumbled a little over the foreign words, before cleaning the last remnants of the rabbit from around her jaws and continuing in a light and contented tone. "I there with old pack, mmm. Mother, father lead pack, then brother Kijautae lead when parent go. Much love Kiki, yes yes. Spend much time happy. Big.... blizzard come, I get lost in snow-winds. Think go round in circle much, stumble round till world turn green and warm. Then end up here."

FINISHING her long story, the elder gave the first smile she'd given in a while, lighting up her face like a beacon. Somehow, talking about the memories to the unnamed male had brought the images fresh to her mind, bringing a sort of happy, bright light to her previously darkened thoughts. It was like therapy, talking about things always helped ease the pain. Raising her mis-matched gaze to the face of the male, Tjikiju gave another little smile, before continuing. "I tell you long story, yes yes. Now you say. Meet you many time, still not know name, my smile-bringer, mmm?"
