The malamute male blinked a little, getting some of the blood and rainwater from his eyes as he continued to watch the hulking lion male prowl on the riverbank. Fortunately he could tell by the cat's body language that he was preparing to make a jump and, watching the lion tense for the spring, Koguma was able to make his own move. With a spring of his own powerful haunches he leapt onto the bank of the river, out of the cat's path, and then took off, strong legs carrying him swiftly away from the side of the river to the south.
