aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Immediately, I noticed the difference in Cody's body. I glanced at him, a little worried. It had to be in the pack, for that was where his azure gaze fell. My blue flecked amber windows followed his but I found nothing. My audits, now pricked to hear even the slightest movement, heard nothing. My black nose twitched as I scented the air. That too held no answers. Puzzled, I looked again to Cody. The white hessian as he stood. Warily, I brought my timber pelted frame up as well, close to his side. I gave no reply to his vocals, only did as he said. My slightly smaller bodice fit its self into my companion's side, fur interlaced. The seriousness of his voice gave me a start and made me even more wary. He was never serious, not like this. I welcomed the protective contact as he brought his tail around me. I matched his pace carefully and kept my orbs on my paws, careful not to step on him. I felt his eyes on me and looked up, hiding my fear. His soft smile was, as always, reassuring. I sent one back with a little nod, still trying to hide the fear but my pools gave me away. Something must be very wrong if he was acting like this in the place he called home.

As we neared what must have been our destination I smelled all the wolves. I realized that a pack meeting was in progress right now. I vaguely remembered the wolf's scent who had ruled here from a time with Zag and realized that that scent was no longer the most prominent. Could that be the source of Cody's discomfort ? Then we were there, in the clearing and a female, the alpha i presumed, was speaking of a loss. The words have a strong effect on Cody though they just won't sink into my mind. His gaze falls on a dark female and a smile plays on his lips. He must be happy to be home with familiar faces. My own gaze falls on a female who's scent I remember to be the old alpha's. She doesn't look well but she seems tough. Cody takes all of this in close beside me, everything taking a much different, much stronger effect on him. I feel the rumble from his chest and hear the soft sound. Glancing up at him, I give him a tiny nuzzle on his shoulder.

Then his beautiful gaze is on me again and I meet it with a look of curious sympathy. I had already known he regretted leaving his pack and I assumed that was the reason for his growl. His gaze is easy to read and my head moves ever so slightly up and down. I watch him move away and hear the pup's words. A sad frown meets my kissers as my orbs find the wolfling. They are brought back to Cody again as his words touch the air. They don't leave him again until he says my name. I look around at all of the wolves in the clearing and dip my crown low in respect but don't speak. My towers move to hear my friend's vocals as they ring out again, louder than he usual speaks. My windows find the alpha and await her judgment and reply to his statement.

I realize with a start that the alpha, or alphess rather, is blind. I do not know her name and am still too scared to open my maw. She turns her blank white gaze, which is stark against her ebon pelt, to me and to Cody. She greets Cody as an old friend almost, welcoming him home. Then comes my own verdict. I am welcome as well. A smile graces my lips. I bring my skull down respectfully to her. Thank you. My vocals are no more than a whisper. My head raises slowly. My eyes haven't left the alphess yet. A question comes to mind and my brown maw parts to ask. Excuse me, my lady, but I don't yet know your name. The words themselves are a statement but come out sounding like a question. Out of habit, my cranium tilts a little to the side, giving me a juvenile look.
