A Taper In The Rushing Wind [Holo] - " />

At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

There is a certain peace to loneliness. A false security that can wrap you up and drown you in transparent warmth. Some people crave it, endlessly search for that fantasy euphoria. Others live within the confines of it, grasping onto their last wisp of sanity when in reality they’re already swept away. Most, though, only retreat to that most sacred place when life has forced them to the edge of the proverbial cliff and the wind whispers jump in their auds. Everyone needs a voice to tell them no, to give them strength and beckon them back from the abyss, even if that secret friend constantly rooms within their very soul. That’s where Bouki was at the moment; glancing over the side with eyes filled with melancholy, shoulders slumped, feeling the tears wash down her muzzle in two fat streams. Her paws itched, but at the same time they couldn’t move. A small poppy bloomed and wrapped its stalk around the tip of her plume, a feeble attempt but one well noted. And then the breeze came, sweeping by her sides and sliding into her twin auds, drowning her cranium with tainted thoughts and sweet lies. Her mom would do fine without her, right? The pups would grow up and forget all about their big sis. Saw Tooth was continue on and her name would fade on the lips of the forest. Her flank twitched, once beautiful fur matted thick against her side. Then she felt her tears thicken in their glands and her head snapped up, nose to nose with the smiling mug of Hiore.

Ivories flashed through the atmosphere as Bouki lunged at the bird who had ripped a chunk of her fur out. Damn avian creatures… it disappeared with a snickered chirp and the petite lady bent to lick the raw spot. Her head hurt. Those sort of dreams had been appearing more often lately, and not just in shadows of night. Daydreams now held the same fate; every flash of movement contorted into her father’s façade laughing at her with a grinning snarl. Really, the only thing that kept her sanity was also the very thing that was taking it away; her family. Gypsy needed her help, and her siblings needed the guidance that the skinny mother couldn’t provide. Painfully, though, being around her earthen den also intensified her boiling rage for Hiore. Bastard father, walking out on them all, even taking Gypsy’s only true son… really, she would tear his throat out in a heartbeat. But Bouki shook herself out of her thoughts again, knowing she couldn’t let herself fall into another horrid daydream. The mottled lady dragged her shoulders up, tired sage orbs scanning the length of the falls as her limbs collected themselves beneath her. Then she was padding over to the water and bending to take a quick drink from its cool, gurgling depths. She dared not look at the quivering reflection on the way down. No, that would only bring ruin.

The valkyrie knew she couldn’t be gone much longer, but the young fae needed this time alone. Not to collect herself; no, she was far past that point now. But to straighten things out within her mind so that she wasn’t too paranoid to close her spheres at night. And with the borders open again she would need to start performing her role as Epsilon. Of course she was happy to have the rank, but she would be even more happy when the pups were grown and she didn’t have that extra stress in her world. Straightening, Bouki looked longingly at the refreshing water before turning to trot upstream. No time. Maybe later. But, truly, Bouki knew the time would never again come for her comfort. She wasn’t a pup anymore; life wasn’t served to her greedy mouth on a silver platter. Her ebon pads held firm ground on the slippery rocks of the falls, soon winding their way up the jagged face to eventually stand atop the small precipice. The wind found her again and her entire frame tensed, derma bristling along her nape. But, almost as to her relief, the air did not call deceptions to her tense sentries. It was almost as if she were expecting it to. And that was truly the scariest thing of them all. Flicking her tail, Bouki felt the need to stay and wait a second, if this one breath of time could save her from the mess of her future. In her younger moons she would have simply pissed in the face of her problems and walked away laughing. But now she was grown, an adult, and she couldn’t exactly do that. Her fire, where had it gone? Had it died with Sora, or faded with Gypsy? Another deep sigh escaped, her own skeleton unable to contain the turmoil within. She really was just a leaf on the wind, wasn’t she? Burning brilliantly, dressed in emerald glory, but eventually you must always fade away.

[OOC: Bleh, short and crappy... do with it what you will.]
