i'll sing it one last time for you

__isoke;

The swim disappears by in a blur. Her mind hazy with anger, confusion, and fear, Isoke is little more than an automaton during the trek, saying nothing, only keeping her head afloat and moving forward. It's when they stumble onto land that reality suddenly jars back into place, and she finds herself staring up at the vaguely-familiar expanse of towering green before them with disbelief, as though she doesn't truly believe they're actually here, in her birth home. And it's warm: much warmer than her winter coat merits. Shivering the worst of the seawater from her body, she turns to face Morgan. Her expression is creased with exhaustion, but it's more neutral, calmer than before.

"Yes," she replies in a soft voice, and takes a few steps further inland, her hooves sifting through the soft white sand. "I should have explained before. This is my birth home. I don't remember much about being here, but my dad... he's a good guy. One of the few. He'll be happy to watch over us for a while." At least until the foal is born, she thinks, then corrects herself. No, don't think like that. You don't even know for sure yet. There's always a chance... She sighs and lets her head droop near her knees, tired of the madhouse that is her brain.

For a few moments she allows her mind to wander, and thinks of her mother, who is as good as dead, having not been seen for years. She can remember the first time she'd met her father once she'd returned to the islands, and how he had asked after Alora. I'll have to break the news to him, she thinks sourly. So many terrible things to discuss. With another sigh, she lifts her head and calls out. "Daddy?" There is no answer: nothing but the crashing of the sea and the singing of birds. But then she realizes something, and inhales deeply. He is here. His scent is faint, but definitely there. Her heart skips a beat, and she turns towards Morgan with the smallest of smiles.

"He's here. He just didn't hear me, I guess. Maybe we should... talk first. Before he finds us." She gestures with her nose towards the forest which spans before them, as though suggesting they make themselves comfortable.
