The unicorn was too lost in his own thoughts to notice Iodine's approach until she was practically right in front of him; his pink eyes widened as she spoke. A horse. For a moment there, he'd thought- but no. Still, she was close, close enough that the sight of her gave him a reassuring feeling. When winter came, the loner dies, but the herd survived. Well, Tesseract had seen several winters, but he hadn't died- at least, not physically. She might not be a unicorn, but she was similar enough to one- as close as he would ever get to speaking to one of his own kind.

He had no ideas of her thoughts along the line of innocent herbivores, and safety in numbers, but if he had he would probably have given a chuckle. He had learnt already that an 'innocent herbivore' wouldn't last long, alone and vulnerable. Especially so when he'd been alone since he was little more than a foal. A blow from a horses hooves could snap a wolf's backbone- and the sharp, spiralling horn that grew from his forehead had caused damage to several bold predators who'd come too close. No, innocent wouldn't be the word he'd use to describe himself.

"Hello." he said quietly, tipping his head to one side and gazing at the Quarter Horse with pale rose eyes. "I'm just wandering." he said- the mare didn't need to know the whole depressing story. It wasn't like wanderers were rare, after all. He hardly stood out.

Well, he did, but no more than his species forced him to.

"My name is Tesseract. Who are you?" his tone was gentle, mild, but there was a hint of razor sharp curiosity, too. He inhaled, taking in her scent- she'd been near other horses in the recent past. A herd? Too much to hope for they'd accept him, he thought. He was different. And esides, there was normally only one stallion in a herd, and that was the dominant, breeding male. It was unlikely that such a horse would welcome his intrusion.
