Consider me a Herold

Vesti
Ill news is an ill guest

Vesti took another step forward. The golden one, Aliyana, was she the mother? It pulled at Vesti’s heart. The sorrel took a moment to wonder. Her thoughts rolling much like the ocean that crashed against the white beach in front of her.

Did they ever morn for me?

The silence was deafening. The wind echoed in the air above them, bouncing around the distant mountains. The Sea laughed it seemed to her. She lifted her brown eyes to it. She sighed, remembering it’s nature all too well. She looked to Aliyana, and there was an understanding there. She looked to the little one. The little one who didn’t understand.

“The Sea is of a cruel nature,” She says to no one. And yet it always spits its conquests back out. As wet rags. As if to let us know we will never be free of it. How dare it take another so young. She shook, the muscles rippling along her back as if to drive off the bugs that had landed on her. But that was not the entire reason.

She looked to the other herd mates - she hadn’t met any of them. And they probably would think her crazy. She looked back out to the Sea and snorted. It wouldn’t claim her again, and she sorely was angry for it. In her mind, it had taken the little one because it refused to accept her freedom - or took what would have been a companion to remind her that It still owned her.

Well it wouldn’t own her. It never had.
