aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Aurora Borealis has been quiet as of late, almost too quiet. The borders have been quiet, one stranger happening by after the meeting only to disappear right out from under my nose. I flick my ears back at the memory, feeling bad for calling Cody and Zig along with me if the wolf was only going to waste our time and move on. And since then, there's been nothing.

I heard Vela not too long ago, calling for the youth of Aurora, probably so she can start some training exercises or just watch them play. And yet I haven't heard the sounds of small paws answering her call or the growls of pups yanking each other's ears. It's a soothing sound, or maybe that's just me. I used to be surrounded by wolves, both youth and adult, but that was back in my alpha days. My pack was overflowing with life back then, so much going on that sometimes it was overwhelming, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I loved being alpha. My pack was like one big family, everyone knowing everyone and actually caring how they were doing, not just asking out of politeness.

Or at least they put on a good show.

I thought my mate had the biggest heart of all. Turns out she just had the most deceptive heart of all, turning her back on me and finding another mate right under my nose. Just the memory has my hackles bristling in discomfort but I shake my head, trying to rid myself of the torturing thoughts. I'm done with that life, over. I found a new purpose in Aurora.

I haven't seen Akina in some time and a part of me aches, wondering how she's doing and if she's found anything out about the kidnapped puppies. I feel useless for not finding something out myself, but then I don't even know where to begin. Maybe Sin could give me a clue. I think about calling for her but then I remember that Akina's pups were not the only ones injured and/or kidnapped. My ears flick back in pain for the alpha and I decide not to call out to her, not wanting to cause her any more pain over what she's been going through. No need to bring that up again.

With a sigh, I head over to the tiny creek and lie down on the banks, knowing I should be doing border patrol but Sin said not to do it alone and since I am alone, I should refrain, right? I twitch my nose, making sure I'm not leaving anyone waiting but there's no new scents so I want to say they're just as empty as they've been for weeks now. The peace is soothing but at the same time, it reminds me of how empty I feel inside. I stare into the creek, watching my reflection, my mind more than a few years behind the here and now as I fall into a light daze.
