your reality is lies

B A L D E R D A S H

He feels a vague disquiet as the silence enfolds them once more; like an intruder whose furtive glances have revealed something that he was not intended to see. Perhaps it was just the residual negativity of his previous darker thoughts, but Baldur was certain that the honeyed girl seemed just as discomfited by his presence, and sought to relax the tense rigidity of her pose with a half-hearted smile. She hadn't returned his initial greeting, but the spotted colt was neither surprised nor put off by this; it was likely that, in her apparent shock, the young mare had simply forgotten that he had spoken at all. Exhaling deeply in a gesture that flutters the multicolored strands of bang that frame his eyes, Balderdash makes another brave attempt at speech, this time seeking to sound more confident than timid.

"What're you-"

Unfortunately, it seems his brother has caught up with him at last, and Jabberwocky's bellowed greeting smothers the remainder of Baldur's words before they can leave his freckled lips. With a long-suffering glance at the filly, the spotted colt redirects his attention to the incoming form of his inky black half-brother, resignedly meeting the touch of Jabber's roman-sloped nose with the contact of his own. It wasn't that he was unhappy to see his sibling, but Balderdash did wish that he'd had just a few more unscrutinized moments to interact with the intriguing girl. Jabberwocky might be composed for the moment, but there was a definite mischievous glint behind his eyes that made Baldur wary.

"Mother's going to bust a vein if you keep making her mad."

He accuses, a wan smile tugging the corners of his mouth upward in contrast to these words. Of the pair, the more plain-coated one was certainly the more wild and jubilant one, though Baldur had his moments as well. Dismissing the topic with a shrug of his shoulders, his eyes slide back to the aureate girl, and the adolescent stallion suddenly decides he has nothing to lose. If he didn't break the ice, Jabberwocky was certain to, and likely in a very detrimental way; since the teasing later was almost certainly a given, he had nothing at all to lose in speaking to the pretty girl.

"I'm Baldur, and this nuisance is my brother Jabber. I didn't mean to bother you, but I noticed that you were hurt, and well - I wanted to help."

The pointed glance he directs at her muzzle leaves no question as to which 'injury' he is referring to. He doesn't understand that the condition is something that the girl had been born with, something that all the good will in the world could not hope to mend.
