Nikola didn't know what to do with empty space between words, but he figured whatever her reason he did not need to butt into her thoughts. When the calming sound of thunder growled overhead, he barely acknowledged it, a twitch of his ears at most. His home was consistently under the assault of rain. Being soggy and wet was not a problem or anything new to Nikola. In fact, where he hailed he could not remember ever being dry. Not completely. What he had had to get used to was the slick wet rock, his feet fighting to make purchase for the first half of the season he'd claimed it as his own. To what expense? The blacklist of a stallion who, to his knowledge, had left the islands all together. At least he had not heard from him since he'd gone after one of the Ridge's mares.

When she spoke, his ears turned, giving her his full attention unlike in their silence, where they'd swiveled to take in the sounds of rain, the sound of his mares grazing out of sight. He watched her, a look of understanding crossing his features. When she paused in her speech, he waited a half-step to make sure she was finished speaking before lowering his head, nose tilted up to reach out, a comforting notion. "Dat is not true. I am jer friend, even if joo will not have me. I know Morgan will not, but I am here for you both, you tree, all da same," speaking nobly, even if his voice was less than posh. Far less, in fact.

He knew what she was saying. It was what he'd been hoping for, after all.. It worried him, looking over the crooked nosed filly he had such distant affection for, unaccounted and unexplainable. Boldly, he stepped towards her, closing the space between them with a bump of his nose if she'd let him, nostrils flaring to take her scent in full, not diluted by time or nature as it had before, having kept his word and kept his distance. "I chould like to get t'know joo, cher," he breathed, his pulse racing from being so close to someone he'd been threatened against.
