aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Akina seems lost in thought again though whatever it is that she's thinking of, she doesn't seem to be finding any answers. She looks more sad by the end than she did in the beginning. Again, I have that overwhelming urge to touch her, to comfort her in any way I can. When she looks at me, my skin shivers in ecstacy, wishing that she'll take that step and reach out to me, rest her head on my shoulder. Something tells me her head would fit perfectly in that little niche where my shoulder meets my neck, like a puzzle piece fitting in the puzzle. I've tried to be here for her and I know it's not just because I feel it's my duty to protect Aurora and everyone in it. It's her. I want to protect her.

As soon as I speak out, saying the first thing that springs to mind, she looks away and I know that I've hurt her with my words. Regret and shame flashes in my face, watching her own downcast features. The flashes of her eyes I can see show only what I knew would be there, so much pain and hurt. I know I have no clue what she must be going through, wondering about her remaining missing children, wondering if they're alive or dead. I'm sure that has a major impact on this decision, I just can't see her never being that happy again. When I look down and say that it's none of my business, only then do I feel her gaze on me once more. I hear her voice and it's so strong, a lot stronger than she looked just a few seconds before. She tells me that she can tell me anything and I can't help but feel a rush of happiness to know that she feels so trusting of me. Of course in the same beat, more sadness because it only reminds me of how much danger she'd be in if I ever turned back to that monster that's inside of me all the time.

She tells me that she thinks it's better this way and even turns it into a question. When I finally do meet her gaze, my smirk is bitter with sadness of my own. Afraid I don't. I can't. I've never had children. And saying it out loud is like a punch in the gut. It brings back a happier time back when I had a mate and a pack, a future ahead of me. My mate (I refuse to even think her name now, she doesn't deserve it) and I had made the decision to have create a family in the next spring but we never got the chance because that winter, the challenge sprang up that destroyed my life forever. But no need to jump into that again. The time was gone and I never became a father. And now I never will. I've accepted that fate but it becomes painfully clear every time I see pups running around. It reminds me of something I'll never get to have.

I'm glad you can tell me anything. I just wish....I just wish I could take away all your sadness because you deserve to be happy. You deserve so much. By the end, I'm mumbling the words almost in a whisper but I know that she can still hear me. Of course, leave it to Akina to change the subjects and by then she's nudging my shoulder and jumping back with a gasp that she blames on a thorn. I lean in, ready to help out in any way I can and she doesn't refuse when I nudge her paw, instead lifting it and showing me...well, nothing. Her paw looks fine really but what can I think? That she was lying for some reason? As if ready to back her story up, she jumps right into another explanation, telling me that it must have been a bee sting or something. My lips twitch into a frown of concern. You sure? We can find something to put on it. I don't know what exactly but I'm sure there's some kind of herb that'll keep it from hurting.

All I can think about is some way for her never to feel pain or hurt. But then she's turning away from me and hurt flashes in my eyes for a second, wondering if she's about to leave. But then she says something and I almost ask her to repeat it. Hunt? She wants to hunt? My brow furrows. But what about your paw? Can you run on it? Concern fills my gaze.
