At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

"It's better not to walk in the past when you could run in the present." (YOKI - CONTINUED.)

His crippled paw remained raised and tense as he so ‘waddled’ his way back to the lass. She had eaten two, it was expected that the weakling would not eat all of them but it did disappoint him. As she came closer into view Amatus saw the blood spread across her maw; now that wouldn’t do. He’d have to clean her up a bit; otherwise any passing strangers would perhaps class her as a killer or a ‘minger.’ She lightened up when she, too, spotted him and it sent messages to his brain to make him smile. And no matter how hard he attempted to withdraw that smile, he always failed. When upon he got closer, this venerable girl chose the time to share her thoughts and miseries. She thought he had gone? No; he would never have left her completely. Yoki was his responsibility, and he would never abandon her in the state she was in. His head shook, as his haunches greeted the bloody ground. Sighing, he thought for a few moments, a face of caution to what he would say.

“No, Yoki, never, Yoki. Oh my dear, I came back late… It was my fault, I should have never have been late- if I hadn’t found you now… Well, that’s just it; I don’t know what would have happened.” He stopped, questioning whether to tell her the whole story. “I ran off into the night and stumbled across a little tree burrow, a tight squeeze I must add but I managed. I am still not a hundred per cent sure how I got to sleep; I was up most of the night fretting about you. I know it was wrong of me to run off like that, like a coward. But all is done now, Yoki, it is no use walking in the past when you could be running in the present.” He stopped and shifted around a bit, checking and studying Yoki’s body language. “Whilst travelling back to you, my curiosity got the better of me – studying two wolves hunting together. Quite a team they were, indeed. I lost track of time, it was very; oh what's the word... Hypnotising. When I finally reached this land you were gone. Though I looked for you nearly every day.”

The skinny girl moved, dropping the rabbit at his feet; Yoki moved with no grace, not one ounce as she struggled to pass on the present. “I’m not--” He stopped himself, remembering his manners. “I’m not going to refuse that offer…” He muttered, where upon ‘they’ learned he was not a brilliant liar. He coughed, a reached down to tuck into the meal he had been obliged to have. He managed only half of it, for he had no such appetite for eating. “I’m afraid I cannot eat any more, my usually handsome appetite has failed me. You can finish it if you wish.” Amatus explained, falling back onto his back with a great big huff. The foot! He twisted himself up with a sudden jerk and started rummaging about under the skins before revealing a deer foot.

He jerked his head up with a sudden twist and loosened the grip, and the foot travelled up in the air. He stretched out his neck and caught it briefly before the ‘toy’ tumbled out of his mandible. Amatus slid down on his paws, onto his stomach, chewing at the foot as if it were a stick. This puppy-like behaviour continued for a few moments, before he looked up to Yoki; remembering his bloody state and besides; she had asked him a question.

“Oh, yeah I’m great; just a twisted paw; it’ll pass.” He explained, but shifting closer to her. He began to lick the blood from her pelt; as much as he possibly could at least. His tongue ran over and past her ears, ran through her muzzle, where ever he could locate blood. “There, now you don’t look like a murderer.” He chuckled and nudged her friendly. “You look beautiful, Yoki… Can you move? Perhaps we could locate a shelter source until you’re better, better than being ill outside in the rain, right?”

His muzzle twisted around a few times, wondering where on earth a little shelter could be. “I hope you feel better soon, dear.”
