Fuel system issue IP: 99.40.167.126 Posted on October 4, 2012 at 01:29:50 AM by elkyman70
Hoping for an infusion of wisdom here... I have a 66 w/ the 2 bbl 327. Car died like it was out of gas. Put gas in it but not as much as I ended up siponing out and it ran about 1 quarter mile then died again. I have an inline fuel filter in the suction side of the fuel pump and you can see the filter go empty. Eventually some gas will trickle in and the car will start. Drove it varying distances trying to get back home after I drained and cleaned the gas tank, replaced all the rubber fuel lines, blew out the metal ones with @ 40 psi of air and installed a new tank sending unit and sock which I guessed was the issue at first. Rebuilt fuel pump is about a year old and has less than 10k miles on the car since installed. My question is what should the fuel pump output pressure be? Second question is is it possible that the fuel lines could have finally gotten "junked" up enough after 45 years to restrict the fuel enough to cause it to starve for fuel depending on quantity used?
Thanks in advance for the help. I've been wearing whole in my balding scalp trying to think of something I might've missed other than a wholesale changeout of the metal lines to cure the problem. Replies:
