The Crucible Statement
In the world today many people pay professionals for advice on how to live their lives. Most seek advice on marriage, managing money, or just everyday problems. However what they fail to realize is that the bible contains everything a person needs to lead a meaningful successful life. 2 Timothy 3:16,17 reads ‘’All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.’’ The bible is a gift from God to direct mankind’s steps. How do we use this gift correctly?
There are three things a person must do to interpret the bible correctly. First they must consider the surrounding verses of any statement. Next, compare the surrounding verses with other statements in the bible that deal with the same subject. By doing this we are letting God’s own Word guide our thinking, and the interpretation is not ours but his. After all, the bible is God’s written word to humankind men just wrote it. The bible is completely inspired by God; this means that God directed the writing, much as a businessman uses a secretary to write letters for him.
We know this because the bible contains information that could have not come from a human source such as details about the future that have always proved to be completely accurate. For instance, the beginning of Mathew 24:7 reads ‘’Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom’’. This prophecy was made evident starting in 1914 when the First World War was fought. For the first time, all the major powers were at war. Entire nations including civilian populations were mobilized to support the war effort.
Also the beginning of Luke 21:11 states ‘’There will be great earthquakes’’ There have been a significant number of major earthquakes since 1914. With data obtained from the National Geophysical Center in Boulder, Colorado, supplemented by a number of standard reference works, tabulation showed that there had been 865 major earthquakes during the 2,000 years before 1914. The same tabulation showed that in just 69 years following 1914 there were 605 major earthquakes. This means that, in comparison with the previous 2,000 years, the average earthquake per year has been 20 times as great since 1914.
The final thing a person must do to interpret the bible correctly involves learning that the bible was originally written in the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages. This is vital because some bible translators have twisted the meanings of the original language words in the bible to fit their own personal beliefs. For instance the word hell is found in many bible translations as ‘’the grave’’, ‘’the underworld’’ and so forth, thus the exact meaning for the word hell is not made clear. However this weakness can be identified by comparing a variety of bible translations. When this is done it is made evident that the true meaning of hell in the bible is the ‘’common grave of dead mankind’’. This correct conclusion is drawn because in all of the bible translations it is made evident at John 4:8 that God is love, at Ecclesiastes 9:5 that the dead are conscious of nothing.
If hell existed as a place of conscious torment in the bible then it would be contradicting the fact that God is love and that the dead are conscious of nothing. The Crucible’s statement that there is only one correct way to interpret the bible is proved by the fulfilled prophesy’s foretold by God, and God’s inspired word itself.
