Soljor was careful as he picked his way about the glade. He kept his ears turned back so that he could hear if his mother stirred. If he was going to have any fun, he was going to have to do so without her ever watchful gaze. She loomed over the young boy. It was annoying. He wanted to be free!

Of course, he would get into trouble. Tallynne didn't want him to. But the idea of "trouble" sounded like fun to the smoky black colt. He picked his way carefully, avoiding dried palms from the storms, and other debris. It was hard work. It would be worth it in the end though.

Finally, Soljor felt he was safe from the danger of waking his mother. He then increased his pace and turned it towards the beaches and the nests of the ground birds. He would go have a bit of fun causing trouble with them before going down to the beaches.

He kicked up his heels and charged forward. He made an impressive leap over a small bush and was proud of managing to clear it. He was going to be a strong boy one day with powerful legs. But right now, he was still too much leg.

Though, the way he pranced about, you would have thought he owned the Paradise. And why shouldn't he prance? After all, he was the son of O Melhor - the leader of the Paradise - and his lead mare. That made him something of a prince. If there had been more foals - there was no doubt in the colt's mind that he would have been the natural leader.
