At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

how could you be so naive?
not even death could save you from me--
i tried and tried to show you the light
you could have saved a life; ♥

She looks at the male, but her fire-eyes are bland and only vaguely amused as if she's not seeing him but seeing through him. Surprise blooms in her breast, though, and she tilts her jaw lightly to the side as he responds in a tone that she isn't sure she should judge as offhand or actually insulted. Sil lowers her dripping haunches to the ground and shakes herself dry, mud plastering itself into her fur and sticking uncomfortably into her flanks. Blinking innocently, once, she cannot help but let herself offer him the slightest of smiles. 'I suppose that was far too bold of a statement for the likes of you,' she says candidly, and her tone hints at mockery---whether or not she actually means it is up to his judgment. 'In dealings with His Majesty, circumspect behavior is a must.' Her tongue drags across her still-smiling mouth, and her brow is lifted slightly.

It honestly had not been her intention to begin a conversation when she came here---with anyone. Some part of her knew that it was an inevitable situation, and if she had to deal with another creature at least it was a man with a brain. Sil was far too impatient to put up with the crude, mindless behavior of lesser beings---and if that made her self-important then so be it. Hell, no one could blame her for having standards. 'Your face?' Sil repeats, and she fails in hiding her unamused reaction to his obviously false words. 'And you say I judge you?' There is laughter in her eyes, and she looks away from the ice wolf, out into the trees. 'Either you're arrogant or insecure. Are you proud of. . . your face?' She chuckles quietly under her breath.

Immediately she snaps back towards him, her lip curling slightly in distaste at the inexplicably controlled feel in his voice. He sounds like a snake, watching its prey, close to striking---holding itself back for fear of chasing it off. 'Are you, now?' It's the condescending way she speaks to him, as if he is a wayward pup and she is his elder---as if his emphatic statement is something she will agree to now but laugh about later. 'Would you like to tell me what makes you such a lucky soul?' There is something slightly off-kilter about him---she cannot place what exactly it is, but it makes her want to bristle and although her facade is at ease, careless to the point of apathy, she is puzzling over who he actually is, or what has made him this. . .strange wolf.

In the blink of an eye she is once again facing the same smooth-talker she'd been speaking to only moments before. Sil turns back to him, her eyes narrowed but her face composed. Wrapping her tail around herself, she laughs mirthlessly. 'What an eloquent speaker you are,' Sil says, a half-smile curling her lips. There is a short pause, and she stares down into the murky water clouded by the beginnings of algae. '. . .I'm not a liar.' She leaves herself hanging, unwilling to continue and clarify her ambiguous response.
