Old confirmation in VT IP: 76.127.231.122 Posted on November 20, 2012 at 05:36:13 PM by weather01089
The March 11,1999 issue of the Springfield Ma paper carried an article by Michael Tougias, wildlife editor/expert. In it he says:
"The cougar confirmation occurred when a Massachusetts man saw three mountain lions in Craftsbury, Vt. and called the Fish and Game Department. Biologists arriving at the scene were doubtful that this "flatlander" had really seen a lion, but became believers when they saw the tracks in the snow.
The biologists followed the tracks and eventually came upon scat or droppings. They put this in a plastic bag, sent it to a lab in Oregon for analysis, and lo and behold the results confirmed the scat was in fact from a mountain lion."
I have run across several other older confirmations from MA, and VT back then FYI. The outdoor columns were flooded with reports between 1989 and 2000. Many of them from very credible outdoorsman that reported to the wildlife editors on a regular basis. Replies:
