aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

I'm not alone for long. Already I smell pack members attenting my call and gathering for the hunt I was prepared to lead. My gentle brown eyes turn to the brush expecting to see Rushing Water vacate the foliage any second now if her scent was anything to go off. A smile pulls at my lips for a brief moment when the mother emerges from the greenery only to lay down a distance away. My smile fades as if it was never there to begin with, concern taking its spot now as I watch her quiver as if the ground was caked in snow. Before I have chance to say anything, little Taeme is approaching me, nodding her head as she does before speaking up, truth clear in her words. She is obviously worried for her mother like any youth would be and my heart goes out to her unsure on what to when she tells me her mother has had fever for a while now. I lift my gaze from the young one to Rushing Waters vulnerable figure over by the rocks, the stench of sickness heavy on the air and I know it's serious.

The other two pups looked scared and I understood well how they both felt. I wanted to comfort them, try to reassure them but first I had to keep Rush comfortable and see if I could stop her getting any worse. I shift forward towards her, I am no healer nor do I have any knowledge of herbal plants, anything that can relieve the mothers pain. I give her space when I pull up close to her trying to judge just how serious this was. No chance was this old age. My eyes wander her frame observing any movement carefully, wishing there was something I could do.

The heavy stench of sickness mingles with that of another scent, this one healthy, familiar and intoxicating and I feel like someone has just shoved a knife through my stomache. I turn to see him enter the small clearing, handsome as always. In any other situation I would smile at him but right now all I could do was look at him briefly, worry in my eyes before I turn back to Rush. "You're going to be okay, where does it hurt?" I knew nothing of healing remedies, I never had to learn about them. I was clueless, helpless and worried for the life of a family member.

I wait a second or two, summing up my options before I do what comes naturally, I turn to Sin, my old friend, the one I look up to the most. Without hesitating I send out a call for her, letting her know just how urgent the situation was. If anyone knew what to do it would be her. After letting the howl melt to mere nothingness, I turn to Kong again, anxiety in my heart and fear in my eyes. What if she didn't make it? What if Sin didn't get here in time? I needed his comfort terribly but I knew I had to look positive for Rush's youths who were no doubt far more worred than I was.
