The snow leopards were not the only pair of siblings out playing by the river on this particular winter day. Muse and Mystral coursed along the opposite bank, not quite racing, but weaving around each other as they traveled. The slender, dog-like dragons moved almost as if they were one, looping above and below each other, lithe dark bodies winding together in a hypnotic dance of sorts, as all the while they moved at a brisk pace along the riverside.

Muse and Mystral were Night Walkers, the small, sinister dragons known for slipping into the dreams of other creatures. These two were not yet fully grown, but their adolescence did not seem to impair their grace.

The Night Walkers were not silent, either. They laughed and chittered as they played, their voices rising into high-pitched squeals at moments of especial amusement. Yet they did not speak, knowing each other well enough to discern each others' desires through body language and senseless cries.

And then they saw the other brother-sister pair, and the dragons froze. Two black, beaky faces rose to their full heights, and two sets of predatory eyes gleamed. Here was something interesting across the river. Food? Or playmates? That was yet to be decided, and really it could go either way. The dragons were not averse to killing innocents, but they had already hunted once today. Amusement was what they were after now.

Mystral, the female and bolder of the two, took four slinking steps forward. Then she stretched out her thorny neck, tilted her head back, and released a long, single, eerie cry. What the leopards would make of that was up to them.
