Freebies are often granted to "all active characters". A character is considered active if it has made an IC post within the last 2 weeks. Posts made after the freebie was posted do not count.
how to get points, coins and doubloons.

this is mostly for the benefit of the newbies ^^
points, coins and doubloons can be earned in numerous ways. unless otherwise stated, you always need to claim them on the updates board.
coins are generally the hardest to get hold of and can usually only be won in competitions.
points and doubloons are easier to get hold of
- when you join your character, providing a sample post will guarantee you between 5 and 25 points.
- if your characters reproduce, the parents get some points.
- you can earn +5 points for replying to an 'any' post.
- every time you post an advertisement for shaman, you can claim +1 point. check the adtracker under ooc to find out how you can get additional prizes for advertising.
- if you place a link back to shaman on your webpage, you can claim +15 points. if you place a link back to any of shaman's affiliates on your webpage, you can claim +5 points. (links on deviantart accounts or sim pet games count, providing it is not against the site's rules.)
- check the news board regularly for giveaways and ic contests.
- ooc competitions occasionally appear on the chat board, and you nearly always get points just for entering.
- assorted prizes can be won for responding to a spirit. there are three spirits which sometimes post on the ic boards with quests for characters to complete.
- points, doubloons and other items can be won by defeating monsters in macabre marsh under 'adventure'.
- points, doubloons and other items can be won by embarking on explorations under 'adventure'. you will need to purchase some items with doubloons before you go, but you usually earn back more than you spend.
- if you want anything specific, you can request it of a deity in the pantheon. deities will usually demand something in return for their services - often payment or a quest.
- doubloons can be gained by selling unwanted things to other players or to the collector at the trading post, under 'ooc' and 'shops'. rare items (given out in giveaways, the advent, by spirits, etc) go up in value over time, so you can often hoard them and sell them on for a decent profit.
points and coins are fixed, so can't be traded between characters. however, doubloons are a completely ic currency, so your characters can earn them any way you like ic. feel free to blackmail other characters, mug them or trick them out of their hard-earned cash as much as you like! taking doubloons from another player without their permission is classed as powerplaying, so make sure you discuss it with them first. be aware also that thieving might get your character thrown in the dungeons or fined.
