You know, she was thankful for it - thankful that her mother hadn't any more siblings to add to her collection, and indeed thankful that Trenus did not seem so overrun by pregnant women left, right and centre. Of course, there was always another issue which was that so many children seemed to want to train under her Master - of course, that problem was much easier to fix than an issue of siblings and pups. They'd be hard pressed to ever be as good as her even if they did somehow trick Heyel into training them and, well, she just felt sad for anybody who had to train under Letum. As far as Eris and Arkell went, well, she had no idea what their training was like but if Arkell training Azrael was anything to go by... it probably wasn't all that good. Heyel was already training two of his relatives and in her eyes... that was acceptable, after all she understood it was indeed their birth right (one reason she had been so proud - she was not supposed to succeed but had). Cayen was going to try, too, but what hope did he have, right? She'd saved his life in so many more ways than he even knew! How dare he go behind her back and try to out do her but you know... you could wash yourself all you wanted in the fountain of angels, but you could never wash away demon blood. That's what she'd began to believe however; even with the love of an angel, such as the beast Tobias, they would still be a demon and when the time came, no prayers would be said over their bodies.

Perhaps she had been feeling unusually sentimental come her second spring for she had found herself pacing towards the plains; had it truly been more than a whole year since she had been there? She broke through the tree line, her blunt claws clicking and scraping along the charred black earth; turquoise gaze raked the barren landscape, her ears flickering forward in mild interest at just how... empty it was. It was always empty, but not even the stench of death lingered in the air; it was simply devoid of life, of death and of anything substantial. She had continued along then, her jog slow and strides long as she brought herself to one of the large, overhanging stones - beneath it lay a deep, seemingly endless shadow. She knew the rock well, it stood out like a beacon or a plaque - it was an important stone for Trenus, for her kind everywhere. Tobias had been brought to the brink of death beneath the stone, his blood long since wiped clean by rain. She offered no prayers or speech, simply starred into the shade for a moment, eyes narrowed, before continuing on, pushing the thoughts to the back of her mind. She was searching for something, a place so important to her and yet one so neglected all the same. It would not take her long to find it, for it seemed almost ingrained within the very soles of her paws.

For some time she continued along, further and further into the bleakness before she reached the near center point of the plains; an area lit up by the morning sun, the terrain creased and marred. It was her destination and for a moment, she held her breath as she came to a stand still - and then, she moved forward, her nose lowering to the earth as she searched once more. This time, it was for a harder prize, one that she did not know whether she would find or not - but soon enough, she found it wedged away between stone and earth. A jaw bone, bleached and ragged from over four season's of abandonment; the canine remained intact, a single molar hanging to its grounding loosely and yet, it was what she had come for. Slowly, she removed it from its hiding spot, taking it gently between her jaws and moving once more over the rough terrain for a few yards; there stood a small incline, one she traversed with a light leap before turning to face in the direction in which she came. Then, she placed the bone at her paws, taking a seat and overlooking the landscape - it would look just the same to any other wolf. Bleak, barren and just as burnt and ugly as the rest of the plains but in her eyes, she did not look down upon stone - she looked down upon the body of Valkyrie. This time, he was intact, his body not surrounded by the pool of blood or overshadowed by the form of Tobias - here, he was himself again, in all his golden glory. She imagined him there in the very same spot Heyel had shown his mangled body, though this time he smiled - and in response, she grinned back, her tail swaying gently.

"Cicumstant te docebit vos in lucem angelorum et Maii," she spoke to herself, her eyes closing and head bowing as if in some kind of respectable greeting - or farewell - before she looked back once more to where her golden, imagined companion stood, "We do not forget, Valkyrie - I do not forget what you have taught me in your absence."

She took a moment then to be humbled, her eyes remaining shut for some moments before she finally lifted her muzzle to the sky, releasing a short song of her own. Perhaps many others had forgotten the sacrifice Valkyrie had made - perhaps it had been the end of mateship, brotherhood and friendship for some - but for Malina, it had been the start of something. And now she sat there in her silence, bone perched between her paws and her mind in a completely different world; a world where angels truly did linger within the skies and somewhere, Valkyrie ran on the great grey plains in chase of the clouds.
