At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

The once harsh words had now seemed to become dormant, well for now anyway. It didn’t seem right in the girl’s nature to be nice to others but neither was it for his. In fact Lycaon would rather use violence instead of words. But he had to remember himself. He was here to change. He watched as the vixen’s eyes studied him. A harsh gaze penetrating his skin. He was used to being looked upon like crap so this was nothing he couldn’t handle. Back home he was seen as a killing machine. He was not a wolf, he was not valued... He was a machine. Her next sentence got no response. Just like insults; compliments meant nothing to him. The only thing that registered were commands.

In no time what so ever the princess was back to her old ways, spitting acid at the brute. Hissing and huffing, the girl turned like a spoilt brat. It seemed Ly had gotten under her skin and was causing some sort of disturbance. The brute was good at this sort of thing. He could get into the mind of his victims and twist their thoughts. He would make them fight themselves and when they had worn themselves down he would strike. Hitting them before they even had chance to defend themselves. When he finally spoke the lass stopped. Lycaon picked up the tension that rippled through her bodice. At least she was polite enough to listen to him when he spoke.

Now we were getting somewhere. Now the insults and snide comments were coming thick and fast. He had to give her her due; she wasn’t one for giving up. The lad really couldn’t care less what she had to say. If she wanted to get any sort of position in a pack she would have to make sure she was better than anyone else. He was simply stating a fact. He had just about given up on life when a certain word made an appearance in the conversation. ‘Monster’ rang through his ears like gun shots and his body began to quiver with rage. A terrifying noise spluttered its way out of his mouth before he rose with such force and power he could have sent the lass flying. But he just stood there, trying to think of his precious family. “Don’t you think I know that?” His once dull tone had now become full of life. Angered life yes but it was full and loud and horrific. It was like when you were a pup and your father yelled at you for the first time for doing something wrong. The sheer power of it made you submit and curl into a ball. But as soon as it had appeared it had gone. He was back to his old ways. Cold and harsh and all so bitter. Now he really wasn’t in the mood.

She knew nothing as far as he was concerned. Okay so he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the bench and he did rely mostly on strength but there was so much more. He was a trained fighter, a guard; a protector. If she wanted stamina he could give her stamina. He had wandered for weeks with no food and water, catching a few minutes rest before he had to carry on. He was so desperate to rid the vile snake of his life that if it meant starving himself to avoid the soldiers then so be it. What the hell did he care that she had been travelling for a fair bit of time, so had he but you didn’t see him crying about it. A challenge. The next words out of her mouth made the conversation interesting although not for long. “I’m afraid my dear it is against the rules to fight females.” If he lost all his humanity this rule would never stray far. Ever since that dreaded day he lived by those words. Plus she would be no competition anyway.

The mood seemed to settle after that. The vixen strode away towards the water and Lycaon resumed his sitting position, searching the surroundings first to make sure he had not been compromised. Couldn’t give the soldiers an unfair advantage now could he? There would be no fun in that. She stopped at the water to lap up the liquid before sitting and mumbling something under her breath. Lycaon just about managed to pick up what she was saying. Something about packs and what not. “We all feel incomplete without a pack. We are wolves for Tor sake. We are meant to be in packs.” He had to admit it he felt strange not being in a pack. He had been in one all his life and now he was on his own. Not that it was a problem. Lone life would be no hassle to him.
