Has to be rabies. I've encountered many many bobcats, some quite close, and they don't normally try to attack humans. A mother protecting kittens will get pretty angry looking but even then won't attack unless you go after the kittens. I've spoken to people there and the cat had plenty of chance to escape, but didnt. Definately not normal behaviour.
