During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

The world had been dying. All the world was on fire… Hell was empty and all the devils had been there. And where had Serris been? Gone? Had he abandoned the little dove to the cruelty of life? Was she to die alone, with only the memory of Ioryogi to keep her company? Prison had been there. Calla had been there. But the names she kept calling… they were both absent—as if death had been contracted by both of them and their bodies lay stiffly underneath six feet of soil. Six feet… Pillars kept stoic on the cave floor, cool and welcoming. The fever had been reduced to nothing, and yet Kobato’s eyes, once full of happiness and nothing else, now held a slight sense of sadness to them. She had been stained with the feeling of being unwanted (a foreign emotion for her). Her hopes had been deceived for so long… was she truly the angel who was searching for her wish? Audettes, once pinned to her dial, slowly swivled up as the sun rose to meet the horizon line and drop a golden lining onto the girl’s form. A teenager now… her pain had not been in vain. At the end of puphood, canine distemper took the femme’s body hostage, causing her to vomit, to freeze, to burn, to shake in unknown fear… and yet it wasn’t fear… And now as she stood up on uncertain pistons, it was as if the ugly little duckling had turned into the makings of a beautiful swan. Plummage was now fully lengthened, and she swiped it past the ground as she turned to face the sunrise. Her baby fat had been lost in the long nights of fevers and her refusal to eat much food had left her with her ribs showing, but she was alive. More beautiful than she had been before, both physically and internally. Toffee optics hit the sunlight just right as she stepped out of the den. The fresh air hit her like a train on a track that she had stepped onto. Her eyes narrowed in the different light as the pupils adjusted correctly to fit what was needed for her vision to be just perfect. As she opened them back up again, her heart lifted and her troubles were forgotten.

The world was beautiful. It was no longer gray and revolting, but instead, it was young and thriving with life. Buds were blooming on the trees, and the snow of the past winter was melting into nothingness, promising to come back next year, but the trees did not care… They were too busy reveling in the same sunshine that Kobato was now stupefied by. All those dark days underneath the cave’s top had convinced her that she would never seen sunshine again. Ever. One leg flew forward, talons scraping the soil and relishing in it’s malleability. A smile hit her lips and she danced forth, her bony body twirling through the trees, over small streams made by the piles of snow, past roots that normally would have tripped her (as had happened many times when she was younger), and she put her nose up to a pine, inhaling the sickly vanilla scent that wafted off of its bark. How wonderful! Next thing she knew, she was running. Running as quickly as she possibly could—weaving in and out of the border lines, her tongue lolling out of her mouth, her ivories twinkling in the high sunshine and her knives just barely grazing the terra. She had grown, that was for sure. Her ears, fully pricked, would most likely just graze the edge of Serry Berry’s collar bone. Little did she know that she would most likely not grow much taller than how she was at this very moment. The month of sickness that had swept over her had deeply affected her growth process and, already being a runt, it was unlikely that she would hit another growth spurt, and if she did, it would be very small and she would be very lucky.

The wind swirled past her being as she stopped, skidding in the soil and breathing in everything around her. It was as if she had been born again into a different world entirely. A world of oppurtunites. A snap to her left made her head swivel in that direction and she peered into the trees past the border, swearing to Tor that she had seen him. She stood there for many more minutes, looking for the sandy cloak and the striking hazel eyes that she had been infatuated with ever since she was a mere weanling. It was probably the only other feeling than happiness that she had experienced when she was a small pup. The feeling of companionship and even a little more. Just a flutter. A flutter… her feminine dial turned back towards Munashii slowly, as if deciding on which way to go. She could go chase after what she now thought to be just an illusion… or she could seek out Serris and surprise him… show him that she was all better… even though he had not been there for her. Both seemed to be fairly terrible decisions, at least, in the eyes of others… but if there was one thing Kobato had not lost… it was her optimism and her kindness. Her innocence had died away with the sickness, but now as she turned back into the borders of Munashii, her speed flew and she moved in the direction of Serris’ scent. A female one had joined him along the way, but Kobato, being Kobato, was not thrown off by this. In fact, she had even the more reason to join him now than ever. To be in his company, to speak to him… to thank him for helping her during the cold months, and ask him where he had been all the time she had been sick. If he had met any new friends… and what she desperately wondered… was if he would smile for her. If the latter was done… she would no longer have a reason to stay here. Healing his heart, just a small piece, was enough for her to take off in a direction of the compass rose and search out her own heart. Unless…

No. She could not—would not, think like that. Even if he was, Ioryogi would take her in straight away. Having thought to have seen his raven black pelt and startling blue eyes, it had lifted Ko’s heart even more than it should have. And that was when she rammed into her first tree. She shook her head, backed up, and laughed. Some things never change, do they?
