Ani continued to stand beside him, lending her strength and steady warmth. That was all the comfort she could give for now. She listened to the pain in his voice, but she also heard determination. If anyone could pull through and heal himself, it was Scar.
"That's what friends are for." She promised, wondering if they could ever be more. She was drawn to him like no other brute. He was strong and caring and had a gentle side that not many brutes showed.
"My story is not as bad as yours." She started, her blue eyes automatically lowering.
"My older brother and I lived in a pack in the hills before we came here. Dominance was the most important thing, no matter what. You were tough or you were taught a lesson." She said, the brief memory of being pinned to the ground, a snarling brute pressing her muzzle to the ground flashing through her mind.
"I didn't want to be like that. I let everyone put me down and show me my place. My brother Keenan got mad at a brute who went too far." She shuddered slightly. He would have ripped out her throat because she wouldn't lower her gaze.
"Keenan fought him and we left." She finished.
Her story was the reason she had never joined a pack and never would. She would never be submissive again. She wasn't the fighter her brother was, but she would do what she had to.
She looked over at him after she ended her story.
"We should talk about something happier." Have you ever been to the cliffs?"
