Hero blinked and gazed around at his surroundings. He had been lost in thought and only then realized it was far too quiet. His pups were always yipping and making a racket, so the sudden silence made him nervous.
The scarred black and white brute got painfully to his paws, leaning heavily on his left foreleg while his right ached horribly. He looked around for his pups, his ears pricked and his blue gaze wary.
He finally caught sight of his pups playing with another young cub and breathed a sigh of relief. Then a familiar scent caught his attention and he turned, his heart leaping, to see his mate running toward him.
He took a few steps forward and met her embrace with his own nuzzle. He licked her ear and took comfort from her presence.
"I've missed you too. It's been hard without you." He said quietly. Just breathing without his mate was hard. He loved her so much now that they had gone through so much together.
"Not you too!" He heard Storm Rose wail.
Hero looked over and shook his head.
"Brotherly love." He chuckled.
