Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

I was not upset with my brother so small, though it seemed even he was not so little anymore. He was growing tall and powerful as Azrael was and Lucifer or Kael would have been. Even now the thought of my brothers makes my heart ache for they I cannot find and cannot see any longer. Never will I forget my Angel Marked Lucifer or my beautiful snowy Kael and never, never for as long as I lived would I forget the Mother we had all lost. It was not being my place nor my job to be the Mother and Mate our family had been separated from- but I had to be try. Ferox and Seraphiel had been so young and I did not want them to forget Zeivah, I did not want them ever to say they could not remember her, so I would try for ever and for always to be as she was in some ways. I cannot mend the wounds within my Father, but perhaps I can watch over my brothers for him and for Zeivah. One day I would look back on this moment and laugh at such thoughts. I was not Zeivah, I was Isola and I could never be anything else, my siblings would not forget their Mother because she was part of them, but I did not know that as truly as I should have. I grieved still and within my mind it felt as if I would do her proud to at least try to act as she would have, to try and remind Seraphiel each day of the wolfess he did not have the privilege to know for so long as I.

Our companion, the girl with the eyes so pretty seemed to grow restless as my Brother and I spoke in the tongue of Angels and Assassins. Sometimes I forgot so easily that others did not understand. I had grown up with these words, my family had always spoken them and they were a comfort, a familiarity that I enjoyed. Yet, I did not seek to make Seraphiel’s friend feel uncomfortable or misplaced this evening. I smiled at my brother gently before speaking once more, in a tongue the young one could follow.

“You do not need to be saying sorry, my Brother with the Mark’s so rare, it is good to explore and you are no puppy any longer, you may do as you please. Just remember that the dark is not always our friend. Sister Aaliyah’s Demon will be hunting and it is he Father fears will come, even if Aaliyah thinks he will not. You are not needing to be me, Mother said always that you were perfect as you were and Mother was never being wrong. Perhaps she will help us hunt.”

I smiled once more, raising one paw to bat playfully at his muzzle as I laughed so soft and light before turning to face this girl once more as she spoke her name. It was not a name so easy to say for my tongue though I had learned far more words since that night when the sky fell upon us. Vir-a-go. This I could say, if I said it carefully and slowly. She spoke of her Mother, this Harridan and First Sister? My head tilted slightly to the side in delicate curiosity, what was this First Sister? She spoke then of her Father, naming this male and no more before asking after my brother and I. I smiled so softly once more. It was not so often that one did not know us.

“I am Isola and this is my brother, Seraphiel, of Heyel and Zeivah.”

I dipped my head in a greeting traditional and polite. She was no more than a child, this Virago, yet this did not mean she was not entitled to be treated as an adult, to be respected for that which she was. She spoke of her desire to hunt rabbits, a desire held by my brother and I as well and indeed, perhaps Seraphiel had been correct, perhaps she would help us this evening before the sky grew to dark and the Demons came to hunt. When she spoke once more, using this word, this gibberish, I could not help but laugh so light and sweet as my tail waved and I grinned at the younger female.

“It is not, how you say.....gibibierish...we are speaking small one. We speak the language of our bloodline. We are of the Angels. Do you not know of them? Perhaps you are too young, but you are being right, come, we must take these rabbits before the sky grows dark and we will speak so you will understand, Virago.”

I nodded my head once more, violet eyes held against her own as I rose to my feet once, stepping softly and lightly across the earth. The scent of rabbit was thick within the trees, a warren surely lay ahead. Indeed we would find many rabbits within, of this I was sure.

“Be ready my Brother and Virago, I shall chase them out to you.”

The younger ones should hunt, they should practice and learn what already I knew as I leapt within the trees and undergrowth, lunging atop the dens and borrows, blocking the creatures as they leapt and hopped from racing back into their holes, sending them fleeing out, three of them, towards my brother and Virago...
