Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

They say many things of my Father and yet always I hear that he was is called Great or Greatest. He will always be father to me and above all this is my privilege. My Mother had chosen well and I knew indeed he would guide my Kane and I should ever we stumble. I brushed against my sire, melding white and white, Angel and Angel as I passed to embrace my younger brother with his Marks so rare and beautiful. He had grown so tall in the years since the fall of the sky and indeed it seemed each day he looked as handsome as always his build and face had promised he would be. I nodded as he spoke and lowered his head before my own, muzzle touching against his check in respect and companionship though still I held my head and tail high as did my Kane.

“Desiderium angeli involvit alas frater recte. Seraphiel magnus eris, hoc novi, mater erat. Quamquam semper fuit, non?”
(Angels have had their wings folded to long my Brother, you are right. You will be great Seraphiel, this I know, Mother was right. Though she always was, no?)

I allowed the latina of my birth and blood to slip so easily from my tongue as my lips pulled back into a smile for Seraphiel alone as my gaze of violet held his own before I turned to seek my Kane amongst the crowd, to catch his eye, if just for a moment, to let him see I was assured, that I had been wrong ever to doubt the wolves who had called Trenus and Paracon home, that I had been wrong ever to doubt they would come to my call. Never again would I question the Angels and Devils or Trenus and Paracon and those who came from places elsewhere to join our cause. The girl who came after had grown so very much my violet eyes all flecked with green did not know her so well. She had become as I remember her Mother so long ago, so long as I came forward to her and she spoke her name. My head tilted delicately to one side as I looked upon her, seeking this name within my mind as the dappled light above lit both our pelts in gold and set ablaze the Mark of Angels upon my spine.

“I know you, Clementine. I remember you, from long ago. Angels are not forgetting. Thank you.”

I said softly and indeed these words were true. She had been very small, very young, though I had heard her name spoken within the red empire two years ago. I turned next to a creature so large, one who near stood as tall as Azrael as his blackened pelt broke apart the white of my families own and his form of night and shadow slipped towards my Fathers own. My tail waved softly behind as I strode towards the male I had called Uncle since the day of my birth, a jest I had learned, placed by my Father long ago. I knew well this male, Father of my Kane and a warrior who had never once fallen to the fangs of another, a male to whom Heyel had once bowed and this I do not forget. I also am not forgetting the words of Zeviah and the danger of Devil and my Father when they come together. I think she knew, always, my Mother, that it was to Devil my Father told his secrets. I dipped my head once more to the black King as I came, grin resting upon my features as I spoke.

“Angels and Devils are not so very different, thank you, my Uncle, for coming this day. I will not forget. Nobody here will forget the King that you were being.”

Devil moved to speak with Chance and Father and I made my way to Moth. She was older now, just as Father and yet always I remembered her, always she had served our family and always I knew that Father would care for her.

“Always you are welcome among Angels, Moth, always.”

Ava had grown as even Eris never had. I remembered my sister with her fur long and dark. Never would I forget those we had lost as I came towards my niece and she in turn sat beside my Father. She would guard him I knew and though I would not allow such words to pass my lips, for this I was pleased. She would keep him safe, she was an assassin of the third generation and I would not doubt her skill, nor her affection for her Grandfather.

“Kane and I will return the sun to our family and to our Pack, Ava, thank you. Guard my Father well.”

I spoke softly the last words as I touched my muzzle to her powerful shoulder and turned from her. Eris would admire her daughter if only she could see her. The male who came next, who placed himself upon the outskirts of the crowd did not go unnoticed, never would the violet of my gaze skip over My Adviosr of Things. We owed so much to him and to until the end of my days I would seek to repay the debt to which Trenus had owed.

“Yojimbo.”

It was a prayer, a breath as glided softly towards him, so much taller and finer then I had been the last time I had embraced, my form pressing against his own. His place would never be upon the outskirts of my Pack, he had saved the lives of so many that night, he had seen it within his stars and never, never would I forget.

“I will make you a home once more Yojimbo, this I promise and always will you be having a place within it, for you, my Advisor who led us through smoke and flame. Angels do not forget.”

I smiled gentle, allowing my lips to part and tongue to brush his cheek in a symbol of affection, friendship and appreciation. To have Yojimbo amongst us was a privilege, to have any of The Three would be greatly so and longer I would have lingered to speak if Aaliyah had not come, gliding softly amongst the others with her eyes of teal to speak, to offer to me her loyalty and her apology. I smiled gently once more, reaching my muzzle towards her, my sister of birth and blood. I had known for a time so long that such a day would come, though I no longer feared it.

“There will always be a place for you amongst us, Aaliyah. I....understand, Sister what it is you must do. Father has long said you are to be Great in ways we do not understand. Thank you Aaliyah, for coming this day and no always we will watch over you.”

This was our Pack, this was our moment and it was time for Angels to fly once more, stronger and higher then ever before and indeed when I looked upon those before me, i saw far more angels then ever I had before. They did not all wear white, but each had wings in a way all their own. I sought my Kane’s gaze once more and I smiled.

I would be great.

We would be great.

All of us.
