Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Heartbreak can be a terrible thing. It can ruin you from the inside out, leave you wishing you were dead, that your body would just surrender like the rest of you did. The female before us, Caithe, I can tell that she's been through a lot. She lost someone dear to her and yet here she still stands. She doesn't feel strong anymore. She feels like she's dying but she's not and she doesn't understand why. Maybe she wants to die. Maybe if Isola and I hadn't come along, she would have found a way to make herself dead. I tremble at the thought. The pain is still raw for her. Her loss could have happened two years ago or it could have happened recently, either way, she still feels it like it happened two minutes ago. My heart goes out to her because its not fair for someone, anyone, to feel this much pain. The summer is warm but it feels so cold here now.

The female is lying down in the sand as if she si saying her final goodbye, her cheeks wet with shed tears, her eyes hopeless. The night is beautiful, one meant for romantic evenings, not heartbreaking rituals. She could hate us for being so in love in front of her. She could resent us but she doesn't. She sits up as we approach, her slender form tense and wary. She introduces herself, calling herself Caithe. It's a beautiful name. She lets her voice trail off in mid sentence though, as if not wanting to explain anymore. My face is gentle and reassuring, wanting her to know that we mean her no harm. She looks at us and then down, her voice soft and heart wrenching as she tells us that she lost someone. A silent whimper on my lips, my eyes melt in sorrow for her.

Isola is warm against my flesh, flattered by my smoldering look. She knows that I love her, that I want her. She knows that she is adored and worshipped as a goddess. The real prize is that she loves me too. I don't know how I got so lucky. She seems flustered by the fact that someone is grieving. She can't understand how bad a heartbreak is. I don't know heartbreak, but I do still know grief. I still grieve Crow, though it is a silent grieving. I have moved on, though, I have pledged my whole self to Isola but still images of the black girl play across my mind sometimes. She was not the love of my life but in another life, a life without Isola, she could have been. I connected to her and I will never forget that connection or the severe pain when it was severed.

Isola sits down in front of Caithe, wanting to look reassuring as well. I hold my place beside her, ever her guardian. She tilts her head as Caithe's voice drifts off, confusion in her lavender gaze but Caithe explains about loss and I can see that Isola doesn't really understand. She does look like she has a solution though. She stands up and moves in closer to Caithe and I hold my ground, not wanting to make Caithe uncomfortable. I dare think it would if two wolves came walking in close, not just one, certainly not one as beautiful and inspiring as my Isola. She looks right into Caithe's eyes and says her name. Then she tells her to look up, tells her that who she lost is now a star looking down upon her. I can't help but smile, eyes gleaming with trust and assurance. Isola takes a moment, smiling at Caithe before she speaks once more. She tells her than that she doesn't have to believe her but that everything lost can be found again.

I nod slowly, my only reply. I don't need to speak, at least not yet. Isola has said everything that needs to be said. Now we have only to see Caithe's reaction.
